upgrades coming for colgan

I've heard rumors elsewhere that Colgan pilots are being cracked down on due to the 3407 aftermath. Violations, mandatory retraining, and terminations have resulted.

Can anyone clarify on this? It seems unfair to see an entire pilot group roasted as scapegoats because airline management can't get it right.

I think that it was inevitable that all the "Q" operations would be consolidated in EWR. The only reason that Colgan even started out with out-basing the Q, was to try and get senior pilots to transition. Obviously, we didn't have enough and hired street captains for the Q.
For many pilots at Colgan EWR is a non-starter. Difficult to commute to, a craphole to live or "crashpad" in and a complete clusterfoxtrot to operate in and out of. So, I am guessing that when IAH opens in the late summer of 10', one will hear a giant sucking sound of pilots heading south to Houston. How junior EWR goes is anyone's guess, but it sure will be interesting to see what kind of structure/scheduling/manning the company has when the dust settles in January 2011 or so.

Ain't that the truth?! I'm not there anymore but I would imagine, SM, MG, PK, DW, VR and a host of others will leave a trail of dust in their wake....:D

I don't know enough about the rumors I have heard to comment on them, I have however gained close to 10 seniority numbers since, so something is going on. I've had about 5 line checks since upgrading about six months ago, they've all gone really well though and it didn't seem like they were looking to fry me.

I did hear the other day that Sheri was forced to quit, which was surprising. Basically our whole flight standards department is going to be gone, probably to be replaced by someone in pinnacle. We'll see how it goes..

This was her last week.

Yup, she still flew. She sat right seat quite a bit on the Saab a few months ago playing FO while a check airman was doing a mock observation ride to get their check airman status.

Re: A couple Colgan New hire classes!!!!

I like to see that. The only problem I have is there will be fewer fo's to choose from. As I am happy to see the movement I would also like them to begin the hiring process again.

Why....So you can get someone else to wear a suit to ground school..... :rotfl:

Thanks for the call a few weeks ago..... ;)

In the last few weeks, Colgan Air has had a 100% turnover in flight standards and training department managment. JEB is returning to line pilot status and his position is being filled by a PNCL guy named, Todd Asadorian. I have met him personally, but cannot say one way or another about either his qualifications or acumen to fill the position as director of flt. stds. I think it was inevitable that there was going to be some changes in mgt. but time will tell if the changes were a positive move or not.

I don't think any of the standards department wanted to move to Memphis... So I'm pretty sure they gave up/ were pushed out of those positions. I bet jeb is back off the line asap.

Todd's a good guy. He was in my initial new hire class as an FO, moved to being sim instructor and then took over as program manager on the CRJ not long after that. Our big question is will management ask him to resign his seniority number at Pinnacle? He's on our seniority list (he's actually flown trips lately to keep flights from canceling), so if he's going to Colgan, I would hope he has to give up his seniority number over here. If not.....scope violation?

I will fly one of those balsa wood models with a rubber band if it pay's, has a decent schedule and oh yeah...doesn't violate the guys flying control line models...

Back off the line to where? The new PNCL guys is the de facto D of Flt Stds until he is familiar with the operation at Colgan. NOT a rumor that JEB is going to fly the line. Perhaps he will remain a line check airman, but I think he is pretty much done as mgt. Iwould look for some more changes in the next few months. How's the baby doing?

Now, here's another question. I know where Todd lives, and it's NOT in Virginia. So, I wonder if he's being moved to Manassas, or is the new D of Flt Stds for Colgan gonna have his office in Memphis....

Kell,
Word is that everything save H.R. for Colgan Air is moving to Memphis over an unspecified timeline. Maintenance Control is already in the process of moving, and the company is actively recruiting for maintenance admin., controllers, etc... in Memphis. I don't think that there will be very much left of Colgan Air staff in a year's time. What this will mean for the pilot group is very much an open question.
On the operations front, Colgan is closing the ORF and ALB domiciles for the Q, and this wasn't a surprise for most of us. Now, the question is how the SAAB operation will play out in the coming year. As the USAirways contract flying comes up for review, no one knows for certain how much of it will be retained. At a certain point the SAAB will be uneconomical to support/operate and the UEX and CEX contracts will also be under some kind of a revew. I don't see the SAAB on Colgan property 5-7 years from now, and the fleet composition will probably be 60-75 Q-400s. Assuming of course we still have an operating certificate.

Hmmm. Sounds interesting. If they decide to start combining departments, it's gonna put it in single carrier land. What's your hire date? :)

They have been hiring people that are willing to move to Memphis.

Matt Hand, our new crew planning director is a former Mesa guy. He lives around Houston and basically commutes to Manassas during the week. The company actually lets him positive space to dulles and from dulles. Yes, the guy that makes non commutable schedules for Dulles pilots is allowed to positive space commute back and forth.

The company is also paying for a new scheduler to have a hotel in Manassas until they move to Memphis, where she lives.

No wonder... If he asked me for a free ride, I don't know what I would do... But I know he wouldn't get on. I wonder if mainline is in the know about this... I bet a few captains complaining about getting bumped by a colgan scheduler would end that.
