Will 135 Mins do anything for me?

Really? How hard were you looking? If memory serves, companies like Airnet and Flight Express were still hiring about a year ago. It's probably good you didn't find anything back then.

I should hit 135 by the end of this month and it's going to feel a little anticlimactic. As for what it will do for me? I see a bottle of Beefeater in my future.
I think it was blizzue that interviewed with Airnet the day they announced their furlough.

Unfortunately right now, mins aren't going to help you much. There really just isn't much out there right now. I'd stick with your job until you get something better. I know guys with 3000 hours and a bunch of jet time that can't find work, even at places that don't pay very well.
:yeahthat: I've got 2500TT and 800ME in a Baron flying cargo for a respected cargo company that I'm on furlough from. Even that's not helping right how. Keep your job if you can for now.

Knowing people on the inside is more potent that having hours at this point.
:yeahthat:

it sucks right now, but at least you have a job.
:yeahthat:

Good luck with the new baby. Hope everything works out good for you and "momma". :)

Oh he is aware of Airnet...

I've seen rumors of some people hiring up here this summer, but nothing concrete.

The Aero Club at Elmendorf usually is always looking, especially if you have an MEI as they have always seemed to be short on those. Prior service AF probably wouldn't hurt either. Do that for a few hundred hours and see what pops up with your newly acquired Alaska time....

Im glad there are some other people that are out there in the same situation that Im in. Im working almost most days out of the year, and racked up 675 hours of dual. If I counted ground and sim instruction, Im sure Id be over 1500 hours in a year. It really sucks, (if you want to do something other than be an exception to the part 119 rule), but at least (some of us) have a job. It may be more true now, but its now how good of a pilot you are, its not what you know, its who you know, and who you are related to. Networking goes only so far.

Uh, why does it really suck? Because no one's offered you an RJ on a silver platter? Please. With 1100 hrs, you're barely qualified for a Pt 121 job.

There are 135 companies hiring.

Yes, 135 mins will get you somewhere - a job at a 135 outfit.

Yes, a year ago, FLX was still hiring, no doubt.

Now, does this mean a 135 job with a base in your hometown, paying $60,000/year, flying an air conditioned Beechjet? Heck no.

Thanks for the link. Sorry to hear that; I'm sure it could've been worse. As much as that sucks, think how much more of your time could've been wasted if you'd applied a month earlier than you did.

Airnet and Flight Express were just two companies off the top of my head. I remember another half dozen or so lesser-known companies that were consistently posting ads during that period as well. Great Lakes (135), Mountain Air Cargo, Key Lime and Cape Air to name a few. Did you apply anywhere else? I know a couple guys who were hired at Ameriflight within the last 3 months.

Saying "135 mins for a year. Nada" sounds bleak, but there have been other 135 companies hiring in that time frame. How hard have you been looking since the Airnet thing?

Though I love my current job, getting a day off every 5-6 weeks is wearing thin. With a baby days away, I am sure I cannot do this much longer.

I am quickly approaching 135 minimums. Is this a light at the end of the tunnel though? Searching around job sites there does not seem to be much, if any, opportunity out there. Any ideas or reccomendations?

Load,

Send me a PM. I have a good contact for you and they might need a capt starting this December. Great group of guys at the company and the owner is just awsome.

I don't mean to sound bleak, just that I don't think that 135 mins really helped me get anywhere. It was really just bad timing. I'm glad like you said that I didn't go sooner, luckily I was commited in a contract and that prevented any earlier action.

I have applied to each and every company you listed, and got call backs from several. My timing was the problem, I was ready to move on from my current job, and the economy was ready for a 2 year nap.

My interview at AirNet was definitely no waste of time, it was an incredible experience and I learned a lot about myself, and my flying. Since AirNet I interviewed with two other airlines, hired by one, then told about the class cancellation. I've been sticking it out with my instructing job- and I have new plans for the future.

I'm currently learning German and studying for ATPLs with my target of Europe in 2010 instructing.

WHAT!?!

Blizzue,
I wouldn't think your interview with Airnet was a waste of time either, but I think there was a line in your blog about them wasting your time. Good luck with your current plans!
