Will 135 Mins do anything for me?

Though I love my current job, getting a day off every 5-6 weeks is wearing thin. With a baby days away, I am sure I cannot do this much longer.

I am quickly approaching 135 minimums. Is this a light at the end of the tunnel though? Searching around job sites there does not seem to be much, if any, opportunity out there. Any ideas or reccomendations?

Unfortunately right now, mins aren't going to help you much. There really just isn't much out there right now. I'd stick with your job until you get something better. I know guys with 3000 hours and a bunch of jet time that can't find work, even at places that don't pay very well.

Good luck! It seems like you have racked up a bunch of time quickly.

Don't forget to looked into x-c mins and night mins.
I was 20 night hours shy of 135 mins when I hit 1200 TT. It took me another 150-200 hours of flight instructing to fly twenty more hours at night.

I know where your coming from but theres a big difference between a guy thats been flying automation and turbines than a guy flying hands on piston starting out in the 135 world.

I'd recommend to keep searching all online job sites. Even climbto350. All you have to do is cut and paste the job into google and 9/10 you'll find it on another job site you didn't realize existed. There are usually mom and pop (dirt bag-gotta start somewhere) outfits out there needing someone every once and a while-even in todays economy. Keep your eyes and options open. There are always opportunities to be had.

I'm over 135 IFR mins and it's not doing a damn thing for me :(

Agreed- the only opportunities out there currently only apply if you have 5000 turbine hours and a few type ratings and want to go work overseas somewhere.

Congrats on the baby, Jeremy!

it sucks right now, but at least you have a job. Keep on plugging away even though it sucks, and in six months, or maybe even a year, you'll have countless opportunities. Remember, sometimes the grass isn't greener on the other side.

I have 165 hrs night. XC is only 390, but that is 50NM XC time. From what I am to understand, the 500 XC requirement is the point to point definition? I have over 700 of that.

I wouldn't say I have racked it up that quickly......I had 330 hrs when I started flight instructing last May. Basically added 750 to that in 13 months. If things had not gotten so quiet through the winter, I would probably be a couple hundred higher.

Thanks Patrick...and don't jinx me on the baby...momma hasn't popped yet. You know what they say...it ain't over 'til the fat lady screams:)

700 hours of flight instruction in a year is pretty good. You should feel good about that. I know a lot of guys that have not passed 1000 tt yet and have been doing this for almost two years...

Well there is ALWAYS flying to be done at this school. For some reason though, some people seem to get to a point where they don't want to fly; they actually spend more time trying to get out of flying. That is where I come in:)

:yeahthat: I did a little over 500 in the last 12 months. There are 4 of us at my Skool o' Flite that passed 1000 TT this last semester.

I have had 135 mins for a while now. I haven't heard about anything local to our area since Martinaire stopped hiring in the Caravan.

135 mins for almost a year. Nada.

Really? How hard were you looking? If memory serves, companies like Airnet and Flight Express were still hiring about a year ago. It's probably good you didn't find anything back then.

I should hit 135 by the end of this month and it's going to feel a little anticlimactic. As for what it will do for me? I see a bottle of Beefeater in my future.
