Heard it for the second time today but it's just wrong...
Rough Rider 422 should not sound like that. Good luck in training Boris! Soon you'll be living it up on the beach.

Man, I'll miss the baddest ass plane there is with the baddest ass (albeit potentially brokeback

) callsign there is. That said, I didn't want to jinx myself by talking about Subair till now, but I finished the checkride today. Great people, seems like a great company (more to follow of course). The CP is a great guy and very laid back in a way where you're still learning (and it turns out I have a lot left to learn...who knew!?). The DO is a very, very bright and serious guy who has probably forgotten more than I'll ever know about flying. He gave me the checkride and while it was probably the least stressful checkride I've ever done, it was very informative in a less "devil may care" old-school way than previous employers, but still clearly the product of a guy who has done a lot of flying. It's definitely more of a suit and tie type of place than FLX or (emphatically) Air 1st (don't, for example, use the term "freightdog" with the DO...he sees it as selling yourself short for how hard you work..."you're not a DOG", etc)
That said, it seems like a good place, and they're very, very serious about maintenance and safety. I think I was told by at least three different people that it's better to sit on the ground with an intact airplane than go and chance it. Feels weird, but being an old codger now, I kind of like it. The only thing I heard more about than safety was how it pays to pay your people well and treat them well. This is definitely a "pilot-friendly" kind of place.
So I'm off to the ATL. Thanks again to everyone who went to bat for me, and in all earnestness, if I can return the favor (or "pay it forward"), don't hesitate to ask.
PS. I did have to get fitted for the monkey suit. I look like a bellhop. I guess I'll get used to it. Goodbye hoodie and "devil may care", hello monkey suit and "standardization". I suppose it was probably about time.

PS. They're not wusses, in spite of the fact that they fly only Pratts. Two of the owners made a point of regaling me with good Mitsi stories from their unwise youth. So while I may be a little neutered, now, in what amounts to an unpressurized kingair, at least I'm in good company. And for those who are interested, the 99 is a friggin sweetheart. It has some power, but next to the mitsi, it's like flying a giant baron. It doesn't bite.
