New Airline? JetAmerica

I booked a flight on skybus for ten dollars once... but then they disappeared. They returned the ten bucks tho!

Hell of a lot better than Pan Am did for me after they folded a week before I went to Buenos Aires. Of course, I was 21, paid cash for the ticket (didn't have a credit card), and figured "no way Pan Am goes down...they are like, Pan Am!"

I hope Juan Trippe is burning in hell right now - I needed that cash.

From Wikipedia....

Sun America, Inc, dba JetAmerica, is an American scheduled public charter airline based in Florida. On March 10, 2009, the airline announced a number of public scheduled charter flights from underutilized airports to Newark and Baltimore-Washington utilizing a Miami Air International Boeing 737-800 slated to begin on June 30, 2009. During mid-May, the airline's website become available and showed it had modified its route network again. Current schedule indicates will operate to six cities when it begins operations. The airline's old reservation system still indicated flights in May 2009 that use to be operated by Air Azul partner Locair, but this agreement was terminated earlier in 2009. [2]

JetAmerica is in no way related to the former Jet America Airlines which was merged with Alaska Airlines and operated McDonnell Douglas MD80 series aircaft from a Long Beach, California base during the 1980's.

The airline had planned to operate under the name Air Azul, but on May 4, 2009 the company had changed its name to Jet America citing internal changes including no longer being associated with Sun Country Airlines[3][4]. Concerns were addressed that its name was too similar to a Brazilian airline (Azul Brazilian Airlines) started by former JetBlue founder, David Neeleman. The company has since adopted the name and logo by the previous startup attempt let by John Wiekle [5], who formerly was the founder of Skybus Airlines.

Is Miami Air still in business? I've seen one of their B738's in RIC every time I fly in there. Just had a that discussion with my FO two days ago.

Yes they are still in business. I see them all the time in Miami.

I was just thinking to myself the other day what a pain in the ass it is to get to Toledo non stop from Minneapolis.....Whew I'm glad I dont have to worry about that any more........

Ok, is this guy crazy or what? Does he not realize that you CANT charge $9 fares!??? Some of these LCC's out there really get on my nerve! Who in their right mind would even allow this to happen? I mean seriously all this is doing is creating another skybus that will eventually fold up...This is just so stupid! Fares should be high enough to pay off all the work that goes into making a flight run. The days of $9 fares need to go, as well as these cheap $49-$69 fares! The flights that are say $69 should be $250...that way the airlines dont have to fight for the lowest fare out there...it's just so stupid how this can actually happen!:banghead:

Ok, i'll agree that $9 fares are stupid and yes JA will fail like we all know. However i know your referring to SWA with your other comment on the 69 fares. Do you really want to change the way the most successful airline for the past several years does business? Some people don't actually look into SWA's pricing structure. There are usually very limited tickets at that price and the full fare tickets are normally priced higher than the average legacy. Anyone my rant is because i get tired of people bashing SWA when they are the best run airline in the business.
