PUBNAT 5- Announcement ending 7/31

I am confused I thought I only applied to one pubnat announcement on ASAP (Pubnat 5), but now when I am reviewing the applications I submitted I see Pub 5,6,7 and management assistant. Aint that a pip! I still have only received one geo pref email for pub 6 so I'mguessing the other one for pub 5 will come tomorrow or next week:rawk:

so, should we (pubnat 5) not even think about starting class this year?

Well I think all the 3/4 (and even a few 1/2) applicants are still waiting around for class dates... it's possible you could go this year towards the end it's just hard to predict... let's put it this way...panels are going to happen end of april/early may. another 3 weeks before e-mails go out... so let's just say Early June. The earliest the PEPC would probably be is July/August. That's just the first PEPC... there will probably be several months apart. The wait from the PEPC to OKC can be more than 4 months so 2010 is a possibility...

I guess me and RDrunnr12 are inthe same boat, I only got one of two emails. Oh well at least I got one! As far as all that 2010 stuff, I really would like to get a date before then, I am actually thinking of going the non epc route because I would like to get into the facility I want instead of having the FAA pick one for me. Is it possible through PEPC to get into the facility of your choice?

Your facility is chosen long before you decide how to interview. The only way is to contact the ATM at the facility you want and have them advocate for you.

Even then, the people who run panels don't listen to them. Lots of ATMs are hurting for people and want them right away, but ATO has still got their hiring on hold.

I wish it were that easy, but really it's the luck of the draw.

So once they meet at panels is that when we are notified that we HAVE been or HAVE NOT been selected for referral list? I understand the entire process except that one thing.

Yeah, it doesn't work anything like that.

You may have gotten your geographical preferences e-mail, but that's just the first step. You don't even know if you'll get selected yet. If your states aren't hiring or don't have need, you won't make it past panel selections. Now that you've submitted your preferences, you have to wait for panels. If they select you at panels, you'll get another e-mail telling you the facility you've been selected for. At that point, you'll be communicating with your new HR rep, who can listen to your request to move to another facility. If there is an opening, you might get to move. You'll get your PEPC invite, which you can either accept or decline for the non-PEPC route, which just means you get to do all of your screenings locally -- even the interview is typically done at the facility closest to you. Then you sign your TOL, which has your destination listed. I wouldn't expect to pick your own facility unless you mentioned it in the geo prefs response as your preference. I listed STL as my preferred facility and ended up getting a facility that's 20 miles away -- but is perfect for me. Needless to say, I got the state and city I wanted, just not necessarily the exact facility I wanted.

nickz84 - Once the panel selection committee has met, you will find out if you were selected. The sucky part is that you will NOT find out anything if you did not make it unless you call Aviation Careers and ask -- but don't do that until at least a week after you see this thread light up with responses from people that were selected. They only notify those that were selected.

-You send in your Geo Prefs
-Based on your Geo Prefs, a computer puts you on a list (The referral list) for the states you picked.
-A person, the panels rep from the state(s) you picked, looks at (refers to) the list and says "I pick this person...that person...blah blah blah."
-If you are one of the people that got picked, you will get an email inviting you to interview at a PEPC.
-If you are not one of the people who got picked...you will hear nothing.

I knew they selected where you were supposed to work, I thought if I went the non PEPC route that I could schedule with the ATM the interview and all that other stuff so he could vouch for me and get me a class date. That's what a friend told me I should do. But I guess not. I'm a little apprehensive to listening to poeple who have not gone throguh the complete process, so I'm sorry if I don't pick up something that was already mentioned. I've seen your posts on almost every thread in this section and you always seem like you know everything that's going on, so from this point on "jermscentral", I surrender to your knowledge of the ATCS hiring process.

BTW for the rest of you guys the other emails should be coming out today, I gots mineses!

So on the geo pref email, I'm supposed to put the county I wanna work in as well as the specific facility? Does putting a specific facility mean you'll only get consideration for there? I guess I just don't wanna do anything to limit my opportunities. I defnitely have a facility I would prefer to work at, but at the same time, I much prefer to just get hired on period.

Nope, but I wish it worked that way. The ATM can put your name out there, but there's no guarantee you'll get anything out of it. Once you apply and submit your preferences, you're at the mercy of the ATO and the facility staffing levels to determine if you'll even get through the selection panels. Of course, once you get through the panels, the job is yours to lose -- either through failing clearances, withdrawing from the application process, or washing out in training.

And the only reason I know anything about the hiring process is from reading through as much of the Application Process section of the JC forums, and I asked tons of questions to the ATM at BNA and at T75.

The geographical preferences are the two states where you would be willing to work. There is a comment box on that page that lets you specify more information, but it asks that you use it when picking a state with many facilities (CA, TX, IL, NY, etc.), as you can specify which region you would prefer. Otherwise, you pick two states from the drop-down box and hope for the best. I picked MO and TN, and I put a comment that if I got picked for MO, I would prefer the STL area (there are 4 facilities there), and I got what I asked for.

YMMV.

I was thinking about putting TX as my second choice. since this is larger area the FAA is asking for counties - I prefer southern TX - should I specify each county or just put ZHU? does anyone know/what is your opinion. thanks!

I called the number yesterday just to get some information and I asked about the rest of the emails and he said they were all supposed to be out by monday evening:whatever:

I got an 85.1
I would really suggest to call FAA. What happened to me before is I got selected to take the test, but never received the email with invitation when everyone on this forum did. So, I got worried and called FAA and the training center myself. Nobody seemed to find me. They would send be back and forth between them. Then finally I got a hold of a Supervisor, whoever is in charge of process. To make a long story short, I was missed by somebody and I was supposed to be on that scheduled list. So, the supervisor had to change a bunch of stuff and squeeze me in the next week after everyone else took the test.
So, make sure to call and take "no answer" for an answer. Make sure you get on. They might have just missed you like they did me.

Here is a reason, did you have the required work history? If you don't make the work history or one of the PUBNAT requirements your going to be excluded from selection on that particular pub nat. So for example if you applied to pubnat 5 with 2 years of work history but then applied to pubnats 6 with 3 years of work history, you will disqualified from pubnat 5 but reveiwed for pub 6. If you're expecting to get two emails and you're gonna put down the same locations for both then you really only need 1 geo pref email.
