I really want to get a pair for flying so I don't have to worry about keeping track of my other sunglasses in my gearbag, I just think it's a hassle to have to take them in and pull them out after with every flight.

I want to get a pair of Aviators, but I really don't wanna come across as a tool.

What do you guys think when you see people (at the airport...) wearing aviators?
 
Usually the ones who are wearing them and running their mouth like chumps = the tools.

Or with really silly hair gel on their head = the tools.

The sunglasses you wear does not make a tool. Just a thought, at least in my book. ;)

If I can suggest Randolph Engineering.
 
I wear em. I doubt people think I'm a tool because I'm at an airport and I actually have a flight bag and I actually fly airplanes. The tools are the ######bags who wear aviators with their popped collars and their polo shirts who wear their aviators indoors, at school, etc. Those, are the tools.

That they are a tool.

Make sure you hang them from your epaulets and use lots of hair gel to complete the look!;)

And when they're done for the day or at nighttime, have the handy-dandy carrying case attached throught your belt so you can strore them away.

Yeah and it's too bad because aviators are good sunglasses. I know some guys who are like "hey look at me, I'm a pilot, I wear aviators and epaulets" as they walk into Walmart trying to pick up chicks. :banghead: Now that's just not cool.

What's not cool.....Picking up chicks? Or going after ones that frequent Wal Mart? :D
 
If you want to get them, who cares what anyone else thinks? My flying sunglasses are Serengettis, and they look very dorky. However, the lenses are not polarized and do a great job at bringing out cloud definition. If you like them, and they're practical, why not get them?

Fly chicaga, is exactly right. If you want them wear them. Dont NOT get something because you are afraid what other people think. Be you. As long as they professional looking, I dont care what you or my fellow pilot has wrapped around his face. whether it be some $5.99 gas station sunglasses or 400 dollar maui Jims.

You people who are so cool that you clown on people with gel in their hair or aviators need to relax. Everyone doesnt need to have the same haircut and look exactly alike. This is an airline not the military. If you are within regs you are good to go. And I am willing to bet these gel haired pilots with the aviators are the last ones to look like dufflebags, contrary to some of the pilots I see walking around. These are the ones that care about their image (for good or bad) so they will probably take pride in their uniform too. Which I think is more important, than what type of hair product one is using.

I'm not a commercial pilot, but they don't hurt as badly when worn with a headset as my other sunglasses have, and I find them light and comfortable the rest of the time. I just wish I'd stop dropping them.

I'm totally with ya here. I've never understood the whole you're-a-tool-if-you-shape-your-hair-and-where-aves philosophy. It absolutely does not affect one's skills as a pilot.

As for me, I where $4.99 aviators from Wal-Mart, and I've got hair that I flip out of my face every few minutes. Do those things make me a bad pilot? I sure as hell think not. A tool? Well, I suppose that's for others to decide. I couldn't care less.
 
It is more toolish to worry about what others think than it is to worry about sunglasses. Make sure you get a pair that fits your needs.

Ray-bans do not give me a headache - any Ray-ban, not just aviators. So, for the car, I have a pair of non-aviators, and then I have aviators. Haven't tried any others because R-B's don't give me a headache so what is the point of trying anything else? I am not a fashionista though, so I don't spend a lot of time trying to find just the right "look" or what would be "cool".

the only way it makes you a tool is if your not really a pilot. otherwise, if your a pilot they're called "aviators" for a reason :D
 
I've got the same pair I bought back in '04. They are nice. However, since then I've lost not 1, but 2 pairs of $150 Ray Bans. Never again. Now use $10 glasses from sporting goods store.
 
Seggy thinks my spiked hair and huge white frame aviators make me a tool :)

He's just jealous I get all the ladies...
 
I don't think tool when I see them. I wear them.

Sunglasses don't make the pilot and they don't make the tool.
 
Thanks for the responses guys. I just don't want to be looked down upon, but it certainly seems that I won't be.I'm going to Sunglass Hut now
