***PUBNAT4***

i had a friend who applied to PUBNAT2, and turned 31 in december. he was hoping to get picked at the September panels, and then go to the pepc and get his TOL. he scored a 95 on his test, and chose NY and FL as his Geo Prefs. he was not chosen for a position. (there was a kid who was chosen for ZNY who is only 20, and had only put Terminal on his Geo Prefs.) i dont know how much they look at age. hope you get an offer though. choose the pepc route if you can!

Makes you wonder how things happen?

I put in for 4 and then found out about multiple apps in time for 7 I turn 31 in Dec 09 so I may have two shots. But lets go for 4. How many can be processed at a pepc? how many slots per location?

Here's the answer I pulled from someone's posted PEPC invite:

We have scheduled PEPCs for the week of November 17-21st in Kansas City, MO and the week of January 26-30th in Los Angeles, CA. All terminal candidates will be processed on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday of those weeks. We will be processing approximately 50 candidates per day; therefore we may not be able to accommodate everyone at this time.

So, 50 people times however many days that particular PEPC runs.

They are probably going to double the PEPC days or PEPC places, since there are twice as many applicants that got picked.

It'd be nice if they had a PEPC on a weekend for people who still hold jobs during the week. The FAA wants people with work experience and education, which usually means somebody who’s in their mid to late 20's at least and has a job. Yet they seem to go out of their way to make it difficult for people in that category to actually go through the process of becoming a controller.

Mind you, I'll still jump through the hoops. I want this very badly to say the least. It just seems like the FAA is working against you at times. :P

Are you serious! Have we run out of things to complain about? The FAA created the Pepc process to make your life easier. Its a 6 hour process that actually saves you time. If you don't like it...don't go. I'm sure you will enjoy taking the time off of work using the old established process...

Ahh, I see, so because they created it to save us time, it is perfect and above all questioning or improvement? Okies....

I'm just saying that given the fact that they are aiming for people that are likely employed, an occasional weekend option might be nice, and in fact, logical.

EDIT:
And I swear, some of the people on this form can't help but jump on anybody that they feel doesn't walk lock step in file with what they think is correct in the universe. We are all stressed out over this lengthy process, so there's no need for us to jump on each other’s back. ;)

The fact that they are allowing you the opportunity to go to a pepc and accomplish something in 6 hours....instead of having it strung out over weeks...is logical.

This is the problem with America these days...too many people think that they are entitled to things just because. You want a job anywhere....and they will have you interview during business hours. Don't you think the managers conducting the interviews work during the week...Why would they want to travel to a pepc to conduct an interview on the weekend. Seriously, look at what you are complaining about. Crying over the fact that an interview for the job you want more than anything doesn't fit into your schedule....is that logical...is it?

As far as your edit comment... I don't have a problem with people questioning the man if its justified and they go about it in a professional manner. I didn't mean to jump on you personally. I still think you are wrong. But thats my opinion. As far as the waiting and being stressed goes.... not so much for me... although I guess thats because I attended a pepc and have a class date.

that is all. carry on.

-PEPCs are a fast and convenient interview process

however

-Traveling to another city on a week day is inconvenient, regardless of the convenient reason you are doing it.

That's all he's saying. I didn't see you jumping all over people bummed about the inconvenience of having to travel to get to their PEPC, which is just as legitimate a complaint as the day of the week.

Thank you, that was indeed my point. And I won't even speak about the "This is the problem with America" comment. :P

But as the man said, carry on. :)

I can't speak for the rest of you, but I've been waiting so long throughout this process that just getting a PEPC invite would be so incredibly awesome that I really could care less about having to take off during the week.

If you want to make a career out of this, think about how small a sacrifice this is in the long run. Be freakin' thrilled you were lucky enough just to get a PEPC invite, and take care of business.

Here we are bickering about how much it sucks to have to take a few days off to interview, when a good number of us would give anything just to be selected....:banghead:

The problem with America is that parents have created "Trophy Kids." Google the name if you're not familiar, there are a ton of articles about it. LOL!

Thanks Miss ATC...
The first one i Googled...repeated the word entitlement over and over. Thanks for pointing this out to me...I found this a very interesting topic.

Ok, I'm going to post a quote from my original post that started this entire REDICULOUS discussion in the first place.

"Mind you, I'll still jump through the hoops. I want this very badly to say the least. It just seems like the FAA is working against you at times. :P "

I wasn't flipping out about the issue, simply stating that for a person that works m-f at another job right now, it would be nice to have a weekend option. I never said I wouldn't go to the PEPC, or that the PEPC was horrible, or that I somehow deserved to have the job handed to me on a platter because I'm an American, or any of the other completely obnoxious things some of you seem to think I said.

Seriously folks, get a grip.

Point taken...but I thought that's why they have "sick/vacation" days. I mean, I don't like working on Saturdays or Sundays, so why should they?? Oh, and they do have another option, it's just the non-PEPC route...not a weekend PEPC option.

Oh yea...I love the articles about Trophy Kids b/c to be honest, sometimes I fall in that category. I don't think our parents do it on purpose and sometimes it's a good things, other times it's not.

I would like to say I totally agree with the person who said that they would just be thrilled to get a PEPC invite and that in reality the wait, the flying somewhere on a weekday ext., taking time away from family work is really not that big of a deal. If you are stressing about this hiring process maybe you should reconsider even going for this "highly stressful" job.
Either way we are all in the same boat its not like any of us like the wait nor is it alot easier for any of us. Just remember that if it were easy think about who we would have controlling the skies (in my opinion this process truely is not that bad and well freaking worth it in the long runand its an awesome opportunity especially for someone off the street).
Good luck to all who are on these forums whatever your opinion about the process. I have a good feeling that most people who are on these forums and post are a lot more serious about this job than the 85% of the others who we are all up against, on that note BEST OF LUCK TO ALL ON THESE FORUMS. hope I see you guys at a PEPC.

my edit/disclaimer before I get chewed out and make this battle royale go on any longer that it should have= I understand what you are saying and its only your opinion tis true this is the place to vent, just dont expect not to have someone put in their two since too.
