Ummm Bigey.... why dont you just think about that age thing from a COST aspect for a second.......

Maybe because theres no statistical data saying someone from age 18 or age 25 is more likely to finish training?

What do you exactly mean?

Nope. The longer you are in the agency prior to retirement..... the more they have to pay out for your retirement in the form of a pension, until the day you die.

The percentage paid as a pension is determined directly from years of service.

Not to say that has anything to do with hiring. I would be very surprised if they considered age at all (other than the limit) as that is illegal.

Ahh from that. Yeah i gathered that, but wasnt thinking that's what you were meaning.

But rest assured, if i can get on, put my 20 years in and retire at 38, it sounds good to me. ;)

And thankfully i've heard of a few other ATC'ers that around my age (19) so it gives me hope.

I'm gonna give it all that i can!

I agree on everything, minus the age thing. I think they only care if you're too old (i.e. older than 31). I'm 18 now and started the process at 17. I'm gonna have to say that the way they have their requirements set up, not many 17 year olds are going to be able to even first be considered for taking the test, and then the afterwards interview, training at OKC, and the following probation period at your facility. So if they could get someone at a younger age that's gonna be able to successfully do all that, i think they'd rather have him or her because they've proven to be an asset and just as capable as anyone else despite age.

Or maybe i'm biased and believe this because i want it to be true for me!:buck:

All of this they would rather have him or her talk because of age in nonsense.

What it comes down to are the minimum qualifications....over 18 under 31, 4 years of college or 3 years of progressive work experience. If you meet that and make a good score....more power to you.

The FAA thinks about two things....did you meet the minimum requirements for hire...then, can you do the job...

Personally, I don't know if you meet the minimum qualifications... But to imply that your age is a benefit to the agency is ridiculous. Not because you may be a liability....Rather, because they don't care...you either meet the minimum requirements or you don't.

good luck sir

I dont think in any way was i implying my age was a benefit? I was simply stating it wasnt a DISADVANTAGE and that's it. If it came out anyway else, that wasnt my objectice.

And yes i do meet the MINIMUM qualifications.

I believe if they didnt want someone as young as their minimum, they wouldnt of posted it to be 18, rather something along the lines of 21.

And thank you! Same to you! :)

How does anyone have 3 years of legal, progressive work experience at the age of 18? Most places around here don't hire until you're at LEAST 16, though I guess some places (movie theaters and the like) do hire at 15. But progressive experience? Heck, I'm 25 and have both a 4-year college degree AND 3 years of work experience, and I still don't feel fully qualified sometimes.

And just as a disclaimer - I'm not bashing anyone from this. I just honestly don't think of ages 15-18 as being able to progress through a work environment in a mature fashion the way someone in their mid-20s would do, and that's just from my personal experience in the working world. I started out at Dell, then Best Buy, then the university where I attended. Granted, Bigey, you seem to have a little more under your belt than most -- especially since you are already flying. Man, I wish I had that access.

Most definitely understand, it's usually a shocker for most, however my parents have been in the restaurant business for sometime now. I remember actually ever since i was born. We own a restaurant, that's where i get my work experience. I am the manager/assistant manager when i'm there. I've worked more than 40 hours each week there for the past 3 (going on 4) years. And yeah, it's been real progressive. Like say having to drink water from a fire hose type gig.

Ahh since i'm family and under the corporation, i'm exempt from most of the working rules required for regular employees. Hence why i was able to start so young, and hence why i was able to exceed 40 hours a week without having the board of labor jumping all over me!:p

Not to mention, the way my birthday falls, i graduated highschool at 17, and am in college (CTI) until everything else pulls through. :D

This brings back memories of the Krispy Kreme fiasco of '08. :p

Anyone ready to get back to PUBNAT4 talk?

Ah like the continuing process of waiting?

Maybe a more suitable a post woulda been....

"God the FAA is so slow....hurry up and wait i tell ya!"

Because that's about how much has changed from before our previous posts and now....

Just a "here's what I heard" message-- I've been talking to an ATM by e-mail, and he said that it was his understanding that the selection panel meets at the end of this week. So maybe we don't have to wait until Monday?

:nana2:

No, I believe it will be Monday (12th). I said 2 months ago before everyone else it would be Jan 12th and that PUBNAT3 and PUBNAT4 would be together. Believe me, I wish it were sooner too!

While we will still have to wait a while longer, I know that the panels meeting are going to be a big sigh of relief (if one gets chosen that is) to everyone that has been waiting since whenever they applied for PUBNAT3.

Like to wish everyone a happy new year and a TOL!

zz :)

Do you know how long after panels it will be before we find out if we made the referral list?
