Dear Colgan guys: Snapbacks

With schedules like that, you guys really need a min day. Ours is 4 hours, and I think Mesaba's is the same. It would encourage the company to schedule more efficiently, and if they don't, at least you would get paid 4 hours for 2 hours of block.

Colgan is one of the Few companies where duty rig could very well be better in terms of "teaching" them to build better schedules. It is not heard of to have a 13-14 hour day with, say... 4 hrs credit. Rather, it is quite normal - Used to be the Pitt Sitt... now seems like it's IAD. Be nice to have 4 hrs min/ 2:1 duty rig whichever is more... :)

Unless your based out of IAH which has 4 day trips, or IAD which is down to 2 day trips, or HPN which now strangely has some random 2 day trips, you are only on day trips. The rest of the outstations are normally 2 round trips and your done. Which Im beginning to envy big time over this ######## we get out of IAD.

Some of our outstations have some sweet schedules. Mon - Fri 5am - 1130am.

Oh, and what is a snapback? Haha

Holy crap no wonder you guys voted in ALPA.

I would be rich this month if that were the case.... I would like to see MX CNX pay protection as well.... we can write things up for only so long while they don't fix it and keep extending MEL's and when that one day comes when a flight can't go is that our fault? Not in my opinion... there is a need for change.... how much is the question.

This 'relatively new' policy enforcement is tantamount to scumbag-mgmt pilot pushing. Hey, wanna get paid....then don't write stuff up and fly that busted plane.

Any airline who does this should have extensive FAA oversight/ scrutiny. Ask yourself why a mgmt team would do this???? Is it because they don't want to know about broken planes....so, put it on the crew to lose pay when they write-up a grounding item.

Yes, I work here; and, I'm not happy about this relatively new implementation. There is no reason, whatsoever (w/ the exception of calling in sick), why you should ever be paid less than your originally awarded credit. If you had an 87 hour line at the beginning of the month.....you should never fall below that amount of credit because of flight cancellations or reassignments.

Sorry for the rant....but this is a very big issue to me.

Year 18? Daaaaaaaaaaang! That's a whole lot of rollin' the dice at a single carrier!

Being so far under guarantee I encourage write ups.

PCL's CNX pay right now is 50%. So, if a flight cancels for MX, WX, your flight got in late or whatever, the pilots get hosed. Now, if you're in a hub, you and scheduling can work out a deal where you can sit airport reserve for the time the flight was supposed to be flying and get 100% pay or the greater of whatever they assign. If they don't need anyone to do that (or just don't want to deal with the clicking and filling in of boxes in CrewTrac), you just lost 50% on those legs.

I know back in Dec 07, I lost close to 10 hours of pay thanks to CXs. I can only imagine the poor SOBs here that are actually breaking guarantee this month. They're probably losing more than that this month.

If our new TA (if it ever gets here) doesn't have 100% cancelation pay, I'm voting "no."

Our snapback payscale for our 50 seater is higher than ExpressJet. 2010 snap back year 18 is 100.88/hr vs 97/hr at ExpressJet and our min day is 4 hours which is a little more than ExpressJet. FYI for you. Our 2009 payscale almost mirrors ExpressJet's for 50 seaters.

Good stuff. Would be nice to see this continuing.

As far as a new contract for Colgan, I just don't see such high payscales till the market comes back around.

Whoa whoa whoa.......

Say when the weather was shotty the other day in DTW and every body was delayed or cancelled if your flight gets cancelled at 9E you don't have trip guarantee?

Nope. We calculated that it would add a few percent per year onto gross earnings, which is why it was a top goal in contract negotiations. Not sure what progress they've made on it so far. I doubt a TA will be reached without it. Honestly, the MSA contract is light-years ahead of the PCL agreement.

OMG that really sucks. I knew the contract was bad, but I didn't think it was that bad. Wow. Hopefully 9E can raise the roof:rawk: on the next one. Any word on what will become of Colgan now that they are/will be ALPA ie one list?

No word. I wouldn't be surprised to see a company spin along the lines of "In order to streamline our cost effectiveness, we've decided to synergize Colgan and Pinnacle Airlines by combining our labor groups." With us playing on the same team now, it's less likely management can play us off each other. Not saying it's not impossible, but definitely less likely. They're already gearing up to integrate management offices down in Memphis, and SOC is probably next. That puts them precariously close to a "single carrier" filing.

As for the contract, I agree with Todd. Without some sort of line guarantee or 100% cancellation pay, I doubt we'll see a TA. If we DO see a TA without that, there had better be some serious offsetting incentives, otherwise it'll never pass. Too many people here are pissed off and ready to set fire to things. The recent "holiday abuse" (which is more like a holiday tradition here) just re-kindled all the bad feelings.

Hopefully you can get an industry leading contract. Because if you look at the contracts of the Conniption carriers most are pretty good(XJ,CP,ASA,Comair) The 2 worst are Republic and 9e. Hopefully that can curb some of the whipsawing and make it less cost effective for DAL management to keep giving away mainline jobs 76 seats at a time.
