i see that you got a 100 viper. are you a veteran? i am and i was wondering if my 5 points got added to my test score?
Vet preference points are considered when the applications are sent to the panels. Those with points are placed ahead of those without.
You are indeed correct. I looked up the rules on the OPM website. They rate your total application on a scale of 0-100 and then add vet pref points. So a disabled vet could get a total of 110 points.Kind of, I think. The way you explained it every application with vet pref would be placed ahead of every applicatin without.
I think it works on a value based system. Say you are a vet, and your total application is scored a "90". Say your friend isn't a vet, and his is scored a "97". I think they add 5 points to the 90, making it a 95. The non vet still has 2 more points, and gets hired over the non vet.
The point I'm trying to make is that there could be non vets hired ahead of vets, if their application in general is more qualified after preference points are applied.
I'm not certain, this is just a hunch I have as to how it works (none of us really know)

Hi Everyone!
I'm a newbie on the site and to ATC in general. I applied to pubnat 4 and took my ATSAT last month, passing with a "well qualified" score!
Anyway, I just wanted to say hi. My dad is a retired ATC from Washington Center in Leesburg, VA and he recently went back to work, this time at the academy in OKC. He found out that in January, names will be pulled from pubnat 3, and then in April names from pubnat 4 will be pulled. in between now and then we will be contacted (most likely via email) and asked to specify our top 2 choices of location. we should also hear between now and then about our PEPC.
Sorry if some of that was common knowledge already, I just thought I'd share what I heard for anyone who didn't know (like me!).
Where are all of your top preferences to work? Anyone care to share horror stories of where NOT to put in for?

Btw, I am horrified about not passing the background check. My credit is pretty crummy because all of last year I lived in an expensive city with a job that definitely did not pay me enough. Luckily, my financial situation has changed since then and I am kicking it into high gear to pay off debts, but I'm nervous it will all hurt my clearance. Here's hoping I make it...
I'm think California first, because I live here, and maybe Washington after that. I really love it here in CA and am really hoping that I get Oakland Center of a towere around the SF Bay Area. It's expensive as hell, but like I said, it's home.
