ZOMG - "Near Miss" of B-747s (3 miles)

http://www.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/v...kg-airliners-almost-collide-lawrence.cnn.html

More fine reporting from the aviation experts at CNN about two 747s over Scotland.

"Even though they were miles away, at one point one plane was just 100 feet above the other!"

Did any of the "up to 1,000" passengers even realize there was a traffic conflict?

Oh lord.

"Camera phones off people, window blinds closed, we're going to conduct an ATL ILS PRM approach and, well, uhhh, just do it"

What a bunch of buffoons. Might as well start reporting on what my neighbor had for lunch today and the effect it may have had on our fragile ecosystem.

I had a pax tell me he was going to report us because we were dangerously flying in close formation with a jet. He continued that we were highly unsafe, unprofessional, exct.

Ok guy, it's the ILS PRM 8L.

It wasn't even on the PRM, but I had a pax once ask if I had seen/known about the plane "like ten feet" off our wing on approach.
"Ya... it's the 28's" was my reply.
Maybe five hundred feet, but that's practically ten feet, right?

Some passenger wrote a very nasty letter to my chief pilot about standing in the arc of the propeller on a Beech 1900. INCHES FROM DEATH IF THE MAGS KICKED OVER!

Another said something about me not bringing the mixture "full rich" on approach. ZOMG NEARLY KILT THE ENGINE!

Report you? To one of the blue shirts at "security?" Nooooooooooo!!!!!

So they got an RA and followed the guidance, and everything worked like it's supposed to?

And you guys trust ANYTHING on the news?

The bad thing is that some dude at the FAA has to investigate these stupid hotline calls.

:bang:I'm curious what those types thought of guys in Jetstreams and Metros hand spinning the props!

Every time I see an aircraft pass 1000ft above or below us I wonder what the passengers in the back that see the aircraft are thinking.

Cant you walk under the props on a 1900 if they are spinning?

Ay yi yi! Recently when departing Cleveland we had just leveled off at 7 or 8000 feet and were in a turn when an inbound aircraft passed right over head 1000 feet above. Completely planned and ATC/departure told us he was there, so no big deal.

About 20 minutes later one of the FA's called up front and said a passenger who had been looking out her window saw the 'near miss' and was demanding an explanation from her captain and an apology to all of the passengers. It took us a few moments to even process what 'near miss' she was talking about. She had figured the turn was part of an evasive maneuver and that we were mere feet away from a firery, glorious death.

After an explanation to the FA who then passed it along to her, she was pacified for the time being. I had her come and talk to me after the flight fortunately she was reasonable and willing to listen. Yeah...... Lots of folks don't really get it.
