for any ZNY people...was in the ZNY airspace over Bermuda recently......just like the last few times radar was down for 'maintenance/upgrade' in the early afternoon which is more than likely the busiest time of the day.
During this period, In addition to working TXKF arrivals and departures, the frequency routinely handles transatlantic flights to Florida and the Caribbean exiting the southerly track or their random routing near Bermuda plus north/south traffic to/from the Caribbean to/from the northeast. As one could imagine the controller had his hands full and was increasingly impatient...anyway here is the question/flame.....why in the world does the center allow for radar to go down for maintenance at the 'peak' hours when the frequency is fairly quiet/half dead for large parts of the day and night?? sorry for the essay..lol
