Zipper ties

Regular nylon tie from pilotshirts.com with slots in the short end to attach to your shirt buttons. And I never untie it--just loosen and slip over my head.

I tried to do this for a few days but the knot started looking pretty messed up, and then someone commented on how bad it looked, so I went back to knotting it every morning.

The pain in my ass now is the ALPA tie tac that I have to figure out every morning, but Im proud to wear it. Im about to look into the clip on though.

Anybody tried this?

Well, you never know when you have to beat someone's ass about whether to set up for a hand-flown CAT II or just to ahead and set up for a CAT III autoland.

I like to run a tight ship.

Just go for the contact approach.....

Cary, Dean and Frank don't approve of clip-ons....

and Butkus never wore an earring.

I wear a clip-on. It's mainly because I have to "assist" in loading sometimes.:) It could get real ugly if the tie gets caught in the belt loader....or underneath one of those 300lb kegs of glowy stuff. I have that thing fly off many times.

Thats right you do "assist" in loading :)

Oddly enough, having the ALPA tie tac where I do on the zipper tie is what enables the "quick escape" maneuver. :)

Just tried this with my zipper tie. If you have someone grab you by the tie, yank your neck back hard. It unzips. It still doesn't break away like a clip-on would, but it's not as bad as everyone seems to think. I was able to unzip and duck out every time, and Nessa was TRYING to choke me. :)

I second PCL's comment. You guys are kinky.

I heartily approve. :D

But after my vacation in Artesia, it was pointed out that any tie other than a velcro or clip tie makes it way too easy to control you if a bad guy comes into your workspace. So clipons for me now.

That's true. But after my vacation in Artesia, I figured out that if I remove my tie and hang it up, I don't have anything for the bad guy to use. I don't fly tied.

Bad guys suck. Shoot to kill and use the sharp edge of the axe.

One of the reasons why I wear the clip-on..... that..and the fact that it's easy to take off/put on after the door closes.

One of the first captains I flew with said...
"clip-on ties are for children" :whatever:

If it's not wrapped around my neck I would probably loose it anyways (like my badge).

:yeahthat:

It shouldn't take you more than two minutes to tie a real tie. If you can't do it that fast, you need more practice. Yes, a clip-on is faster...but it's also a clip-on.

If someone busts into your cockpit and grabs your tie, you've got bigger problems than clip-on/not clip-on.

If someone grabs your tie while your heading to the lav, well you still got bigger problems, but there are plenty of ways to take care of business with a real tie in this situation.

If you get your tie stuck in something while doing a walk-around...you're doing it wrong.

I tied 2 ties ONCE at the beginning of my airline career several years back and am still using them on the original knots and they still look VERY good believe it or not, not wrinkled at all from loosening/tightening.

Clip on ties look stupid in my opinion.. they never look right.
