Zipper ties

I hate ties all together but it is required for the job..... its easy to spot me in the crew room though.... got my tie pulled down and the top button of my shirt undone for maximum comfort.
Also as soon as the door closes I make myself comfy....
 
Used to wear zipper ties, loved them. They do tend to get dirty around the knot where you are pulling on them with your dirty mitts all the time, though.

But after my vacation in Artesia, it was pointed out that any tie other than a velcro or clip tie makes it way too easy to control you if a bad guy comes into your workspace. So clipons for me now.

Very interesting, never thought of that.
 
I love them. Saves me about 5 minutes every morning.

and I am not too worried about someone jerking me around by my tie.
 
Depends on the situation.

I can understand why some feel the perpetual risk that is wearing a regular tie. I get it, got it, and heard all the stories during my military time. That said, I wore a clip-on tie in the military.

Now, as a civilian who isn't afraid of some idiot trying to grab my tie, I wear regular ties.

I enjoy tieing any tie, be it for work or for a special occasion.

Interesting point--and true of non-breakaway ID lanyards, etc, too (which I think OSHA prohibits, IIRC).

But doesn't the extra equipment made possible by said vacation kinda mitigate that risk?

but seriously, i think it was the length that got me. I would tie my tie, then it would be too short, or too long, so I would have to tie it again. Also, our ties that the company uniform company sold us are the skinny ties. Personally i think skinny ties are ugly! Its time for another zip tie when i get back tho. Mine is so dirty.

I voted no, because although I used to wear the zipper tie, I now wear a clip-on tie.

When I had the zipper tie for my flight instructing job before the airlines, it was great not to have to tie a real tie every day. Also nice to take it off right away in the airplane and stay cool and comfortable.

I wore it for a year in airline flying before getting a clip-on. The clip-on tie makes the zipper tie feel like way too much work! I can now take the tie off even easier the instant I am out of public view, usually as we start to pushback or sometimes right when we close the door.

It also allows me to spill a decent amount of food in the very middle of the uniform shirt and not worry about it because the tie will cover it up until the shirt is washed. With the zipper tie, loosening it is easy but taking it off still required some maneuvering.

Bill liked his zipper tie, it looked just like a "regular" tie. The zipper mechanism didn't hold up over time and the zipper broke though, so he's back to his old regular tie.
 
I've worn a zipper tie for the last 8 years. Easy on, easy off, and it looks nice. Recently I bought one of the velcro ties. Even better.
 
Having taken several courses in self defense, a normal tie is one of the worst things you can wear. All you have to do is grab the tie and you control the fight.

Given that, I wear a normal tie and take it off as soon as the cockpit door is closed. I haven't found a zip-tie that looks good.
 
I know it's a different line of work but mine is a clip on. There is no other option other then a clip on.
 
I hate to button the top button on my shirts so, a clip-on is way too uncomfortable. Zipper for me. Now, where can I find one of those velcro ties? Crew Outfitters?

Ha.. Man. As a group, we pilots are extremely lazy. Even a tie that you don't have to "tie" or "untie" is too much work. :buck:

I'm a big fan of the zipper.
 
first day of fancy passenger airline work I printed out how to tie a tie from the internet, and have been tieing ties since

right now tho i have nothing to do

I'm a clip-on tie guy, largely for security purposes. A standard tie is nothing more than a pre-rigged noose in the eyes of a hijacker.
