I believe that there is a "Life Experience" factor that plays a part as well... Also... most retired military guys are much older.

So... I'm thinking that the older you are... doesn't necessarily eliminate you from the job. In fact... it may very well be a benefit.

20 as a CFI/corporate (while still in college)
22 at regional
25 at major


I was the baby in my class both at Delta and at Pinnacle...average age for both of those classes was in the low 30's, though. My Pinnacle class had one guy that was 50. Most were in their late 20's to early 30's. My Delta class had me at 25, there were 5 that were 29 and 30, and the rest were late 30's and early-mid 40's.

Age is a factor with your seniority when you hit retirement- It, however, should not prevent you in reaching your goals in avation unless you're 55, haha.
 
Second career for me, but I was just hired at Colgan and I'm 40.

An aside related to age, a former student of mine who currently works as a FA for mainline Continental just recently got her commercial multi and is working toward building time to go to the regionals, and I think she's in her late 40's or early 50's. In her case, she's divorced, kids are off to college, and she's looking to change careers. She went the FA route, but the CAL pilots have been encouraging her to finish her ratings/certificates and pursue becoming a pilot. I don't think they'd be encouraging her to do that if they thought she couldn't do it, so I don't think age matters much.

Whew. Thats good news, because my magic eight ball says I will be 35 when I get hired by a regional.:)
 
22 when i got hired at eagle. When I transitioned to the ERJ there was a new hire that was 57 years old, yes 57. He had retired from his previous career, but sadly he didn't make it through the sims.
 
Hired at a regional at 21, held left seat at 23, but I dropped out of college to do it. Don't be like me kids! Stay in school. An uneducated swine like myself will probably be slaving away at regional wages until they finish their bachelor's (progress is slow).

Not necessarily. I got hired at AirTran before finishing my 4-year degree. SWA also hires quite a few guys sans degree. It can be done.
 
I was Hired by JetBlue when I was 35, right after I got out of the Navy. I was about 2/3 of the way down the age list. Oldest was around 50, youngest was about 32 I think.

Hiring ages will definitely different between guys who did their flying in the military and those who did it all civilian.
