young guys

how many of yall on here male or felmale are like me young trying to persue the aviation carrer im 18 just got instement rated and wonder how many more young pilots there are relly out there?

I started flying at 15ish, now I'm 21 doin' it for a living, wouldn't ever do anything else. Its awesome. Expensive, but awesome.

You may think I'm being a tool, but your lack of concern for spelling, grammar and punctuation makes an immediate negative impression that you probably don't want t have associated with your reputation. You might be a straight-A student, but we wouldn't know it. In a profession where two-way communication is vital, your ability to express yourself is more important than your ability to fly an airplane. If you want people to take you serious, you need to take your ability to express yourself serious.

<edited.> Someone already commented on it, albeit unnecessary as well, but chill out.

I'm only 22. I have my PPL, hoping to start my instrument rating soon. I have a college degree and am working in that field right now, hoping to eventually make a career flying.

Actually, I can think of nothing more bothersome than poor grammar. In the professional world, cover letters or emails won't even get a first look if laden with mistakes or signs of laziness. Don't forget that JC is a manifestation of the professional aviation world.

I'll risk the possibility of also being a tool to reiterate those facts. Says the grammarian.

I'm 20 now. I solo'ed at 16, license at 17. Slipped a bit and got the instrument at 18; Com MEL at 19, followed by the Com SEL. Added the Com MES at this year.

Wow you guys are making me feel old; I thought I was young at 24 but I guess I'm getting long in the tooth. I got my PPL just after turning 23 and I'm almost done with my Instrument. As long as everything else falls in place the government should pick up the rest.

To everyone who doesn't understand this:

You are attempting to enter into a career defined by professionalism, and staffed by professionals. Writing on a forum frequented by your peers at a 3rd grade level does not evoke opinions of professionalism by your peers. If you thought it was tough to get a job a few years ago, think about how hard it is today and how hard it will be in the future. Do you want to already be down on points going into that process because you cannot properly communicate?

My point is, it was already addressed and has nothing to do with his post. Stop clogging the board with this... its immature, I am sure the dude can read and write english. I type fast and occasionally mis-type. Especially when you get slightly off on the keyboard then everything after will be garbage, next thing you know you hit enter.

Last thing I need are some people telling me I'm not professional. I agree, in work emails and business settings, you must pay close attention to detail.

This is an internet forum and I don't care to read 3 or 4 posts on this guy's spelling and grammar. Yea it sucked, get over it.

Looking at the comparisons here I guess I'm middle-aged. I'm 19 with a CFI and CFII with the MEI on it's way shortly.

Not beating a dead horse, but agreed, professionalism is HUGE in aviation.

My $.02

The sooner you find out that the second you walk out your front door is a job interview, the farther you will go in ANY job sector:tmyk:

I'm 20 going to be 21 in three months and I am still working on my PPL.

I gotta agree with The Duke. This thread is about young guys, and some of you are actually showing your age and immaturity in this thread.

I can understand if someone was posting in "leet/1337" on the forum ad nauseum. If anything that would be an opportunity to mentor and reach out to that individual. Letting said member know that using correct english is proper form when typing on the forum.

But, misspelling a word or lack of correct grammar shouldn't be an opportunity to lambaste somebody. But again an opportunity to guide someone. Those deciding to castigate the individual in question are choosing to mention professionalism in their post when they reprimand him. Maybe they all should take a review of what the definition of professionalism is. Some of you take yourself too seriously and just need to relax.
