I understand that the student needs to be ready to go around; however it's quite frustrating to get to the point where the student is just about to get it right, and you have to go around.

Yes I think radios and towers are safer. If they weren't, ORD, LHR and HKG would all be non-towered. I've had way more incidents like that at uncontrolled airports.

PS. My students do just fine at uncontrolled fields.

It's not students I worry about at uncontrolled fields, it's usually always Grampa Joe in his ratted out '56 172 that's been flying "his way" since the 1950s. :P

I dont even mind those guys so much as dufus in his Arrow shooting straight in approaches against pattern traffic while not talking to anybody.
 
Both Grandpa Joe and the guy in the arrow (usually a Cirrus though) scare me. I'm extra cautious on weekends. That's when the crazy people come out.

Haha That's awesome and so true! This happened to me last night. I was thinking to myself when I took over "oh what a mess" haha :)
 
You might be a CFI if...

...after a 16 hour day, you climb into the right seat of your car to drive home, and need a few seconds to figure out something isn't right.

...you've had to land without use of the flight instruments because the student vomited on them.

...you can simultaneously take over the flight controls, open the window, and call approach to let them know you're returning to the airport, all without being distracted by the sound/smell of someone getting airsick next to you.

...you keep a spare shirt in your office any time you have an intro flight scheduled (see above).

You might be a CFI if only by pointing your finger to the sky you can tell the wind direction and speed, barometric pressure and current ATIS...............;)

Or at least, thats what you've told your students, but they didn't see you listening to the ATIS on a handheld while they were outside preflighting...

Been there, had several pukers. Keeping a sic sac handy is key. When doing aerobatic flights I tell them that there is no shame in turning back, we're still going to tell your friends & family that we did a four g inverted dive with a MiG 28. And I reinforce the fact that if they puke, I'll puke and who's going to land it if we are both puking? They usually laugh on the ground but in the air they are quick to tell me to land.

Ive been cut-off on final and turned inside of more times than I can count at towered airports. It's not like I teach students to fly a huge pattern either....This doesn't even take into account the time controllers have screwed up. Confusing our position or aircraft with another.

90% of the airports out there don't have control towers, but yet somehow we all manage. Or maybe we're all just dangerous...

Then there was that one time in [redacted, non-towered airport] when, uh, someone that we know, uh, came busting into the pattern NORDO. :D
