So how's business actually going for you? I hope all is well.

Instructing has slowed down quite a bit for me during these winter months, but I'm still having a blast, even if I only get 5 hours/week.
 
heh heh heh....funny situation -

I only have one student, but he sure keeps me busy. Wish I could spill the beans, but I just introduced him to the board.

Sure would be nice to have some more students though since I work with him about 12 hours a day but only end up charging about 4 because the other 8 hours is stuff that he could learn on his own, but doesn't know any better yet. Once he knows where to go for info if I have to teach him how to do it again I'll charge him.

That and I have to do all my own advertizing, networking and markenting. That's a pretty time consuming job in and of itself...

Anyway - things are okay; it sure is different being on the instructor end of things & getting thrown questions ranging from NDB's to light gun signals to where to go buy an ASA CP-R plotter. Sheesh. I don't know anything anymore. LOL
 
12 hours? WOW! Is that for a private student? I'm a giving sort of guy, but I think that would test even my limits.

For marketing and advertising ideas, have you read Greg Brown's "The Savvy Flight Instructor"? I read that book right after my CFI checkride and found it to have enormous amounts of useful advice.

It's aimed at instructors in your situation, needing to recruit their own students without any help from the FBO/flight school. Of course, for instructors already set with students, like me working at a college, it also has great information for other areas of teaching....general tips on professionalism, ways to make students feel comfortable, etc.

Check it out if you can find the time.

Hey Moxie, I notice your at KDAB -if you go to Deland, check out Regional Airline Academy and talk to P.J. Ash, I hear they need flight instructors really bad right now. One guy I know is averaging close to 100hrs. per month.
 
I used to lose track of days too. The way I would know it was Friday or Saturday was that I would go food shopping after work and see all these people my age dressed up to go out and picking up beer. Ah yes. Good times. Come to think of it I still don't generally know what day of the week it is. I guess that's just the nature of the business.

Over the summer I was working Wed-Sunday. Let me just tell you that Mon/Tues are HORRIBLE days to have off. Wake up to Judge Judy's cackle. hmph!
