If you want them to tank, help it along...no jumpseats for Skybus, Virgin, Allegiant or jetBlue pilots.

That's the way to help the piloting profession.

To a great extent the aversion that many pilots and most of the public have to unions is over stuff like this. How that helps the profession escapes me. Over the years I've watched some legacy pilots denigrate and generally piss off other groups that they see as competition and I've yet to see anything good come of it. It has helped the in-house pilot union movement immensely.
 
Sorry, but you need to explain to me how discretionary granting of jumpseat privileges causes public aversion to unions.
