Yet another Ground Instructor question.

:rolleyes: Dumb question :rolleyes:

If I want to -Ground Instruct- my heart out, do I need an IGI in addition to the AGI?

A person who holds a ground instructor certificate with the advanced rating is authorized to provide: · Ground training in the aeronautical knowledge areas required for the issuance of any certificate or rating under § 61.215 ;
· Ground training required for any flight review; and
· A recommendation for a knowledge test required for the issuance of any certificate under § 61.215 .
The "issuance of any certificate or rating" is causing me to wonder if I need an IGI at all. Unless it's the "knowledge test for any certificate(paraphrased), in the following sentence that makes an IGI necessary.?.

I'm pretty sure you need the IGI if you want to do any instrument ground instruction. Thats just my interpretation

Because it says "knowledge test for any certificate", and doesn't mention knowledge tests for "ratings", you would need the IGI to endorse someone for their instrument knowledge test or give ground instruction for an instrument proficiency check. From what I hear, the FAA screwed up the way they worded the regulations by saying an AGI could give ground instruction for ANY certificate OR rating. This apparently was not their intention, so as it stands, you can give ground instruction for instrument. BUT, you can't endorse for their knowledge. Supposedly they're going to modify this regulation so an AGI can't give any instrument ground instruction.

I was under the impression if your a CFI CFII MEI you can give ground instruction. I've heard in many cases the student has been signed off by the instructor for written tests. Might wanna contact the FSDO and look for the limitations of the CFI for ground instruction.

ah ok. Yea if you want to do ground instruction for instrument you'll need an IGI so you can teach and sign off students.
