A plane carrying 47 people from Chicago went off the runway at the Akron-Canton Airport just after midnight Friday, but no one was hurt.
The federal National Transportation Safety Board was investigating the cause of the incident, said Krisitie Van Auken, senior vice president and chief marketing and communications officer for the airport.
Airport safety crews and the Green Fire Department were called at 12:04 a.m. Friday to the incident, which involved an Embraer 145 jet that had been United Express Flight 5916, she said. The type of plane normally has about 50 seats.
Van Auken said the plane was carrying “42 passengers, one infant in arms and three crew members,” who had earlier departed from the Chicago O’Hare International Airport.
“(The plane) veered off the runway after a safe landing on our Runway 5/23 and came safely to rest near the midpoint of the runway,” she said. “All passengers and crew members were safely unloaded from the airplane and transported to the main terminal building.”
At daylight Friday, the plane was still where it had stopped as investigators looking into the cause of the incident.
“The good news is nobody was hurt,” Van Auken said.
