XBox On The Road?

I've been thinking of getting one for Christmas....Which is the best gaming platform? Is there any new platform on the immediate horizon that I should wait for?

What kinda games and stuff are you looking for? Party games? Fun games just to screw around? Then, the Wii is your platform. The serious, high def, power punching games are gonna be on the Xbox and the PS3, though. MOST of the games are cross platform (on both systems), but some are exclusive to one or the other. Little Big Planet, Uncharted and Resistance (if they still make that one) are all PS3 exclusives. Forza Motorsports, Halo and Fable are Xbox exclusives. Lately, it's also seemed that Xbox has either been getting games with an "Xbox exclusive" window or exclusive DLC (downloadable content). Rock Band 2 has been a prime example of this. It was out on the Xbox for a couple of weeks to a month before the PS3. GTA IV is available on both systems, but the DLC has been coming out for the Xbox before the PS3 by a month or so. Not sure if it's a programming thing or a licensing deal Microsoft is working behind the scenes. Former PS exclusives like Tekken, Metal Gear and Final Fantasy are showing up on Xbox now. I THINK Bioshock was an Xbox exclusive (minus the PC version), but Bioshock 2 will be on both platforms. So, it's starting to look like exclusivity is going away. Personally, I think that's good news for gamers.

Now, if you're looking at multiplayer stuff, here's where it gets confusing. PSN (Playstation Network) is free. Xbox Live will cost you about the price of a new game per year. However, there are a LOT of people on Xbox Live. Reading some of the forums, I've seen people on PSN having trouble finding people to play with. If I hit "quickmatch" on Xbox Live, unless it's a game that no one plays or has been out for 2 years, I've normally got people to play with in under 2 minutes. Sometimes as little as 30 seconds. If it's a new game like Modern Warfare 2 or Left for Dead 2, you may get it in about 5-10 seconds. 'Course if it's a popular game like that, you'll likely be able to find people on PSN to play with as well.

I bought an Xbox over the PS3, and here's the reasons why: PS3 had ONE exclusive game I wanted to play. Xbox had/has a LOT. I prefer the Xbox Live service over PSN, despite the $60ish price tag. At the time I bought the Xbox 360, the PS3 was insanely overpriced, especially given the catalog of games available. Since then, prices have pretty much evened out, depending of course on which system you get. I WAS gonna get a PS3 as a blu-ray player simply because at the time they were cheaper than standalone blu-ray players. Well, I picked up a blu-ray player at Best Buy this week for half the price of a PS3, so now I don't really have ANY need for it outside of playing Little Big Planet or Uncharted, and I don't feel like paying $320 just to play two games. If you've got a lot of blu-ray movies, though, this would be a selling point for the PS3.

That's about all I've got. You'll get plenty of the "Xbox SUCKS!" and "Playstation SUCKS!" but you just have to make a list of what YOU want out of a system, look at the games you want to play and see which system they are out for, and then make a decision from that.

Or, if you've got a lot of money to burn, buy both. :)

Hey guys since this is a gaming thread..

Maybe I'm the only guy who hasn't played and couldn't tell you the difference between a XBox, Playstation or a Wii.

I've been thinking of getting one for Christmas....Which is the best gaming platform? Is there any new platform on the immediate horizon that I should wait for?

I had a Sega Genesis probably 12 years ago and I played an old Playstation a few times at a crashpad...I couldn't believe the controller shook!

My BIL bought us a Wii last year for Xmas. I like it. I had the same Sega and I did have a PS1 a long time ago.

The Wii games have been getting better, it's more a family type gaming system however. I did play a Shoot 'em up game, "World at War", a WWII game, and it was pretty good for the Wii. I like the wii-mote interaction with the games much more than the standard "press a button to swing a golf club".

There are limited "good" games for the Wii however. If you're into car racing and shoot 'em up games go for the 360. I don't have one but the games do look more "fun".

Personally any type of game for me is limiting and frustrating, except for the wii sports games. I like to just go outside and do things. I'm now into skeet/trap shooting and there is a world of difference in the fun factor with shooting real things vs. shooting "people" on a game system. A simple matter of looking around in a game is tough and frustrating. Maybe I need one of those VR helmets or something.

Wait, there's more than ONE Taliban over at Skywest?!?! :)

I think theres 3 or 4 of us. That I know of. Theres always the lurkers. They're all older than me. One is 38 another 42 and fifty something. Were fighting the company right now on giving us a place to hang our turbans in the cockpit. I keep telling them the coat closet won't work because theres infidel overcoats mixing in there.

Yup, depends on what YOU want to do with a game system.

We have a Wii, got it for the family for Christmas last year. It's a lot of fun, the whole family likes playing it and CAN play it. But we're not true "gamers" by any stretch of the imagination. For us it's the perfect game system. Depending on what kind of games you want to play, you may be better off with a PS or an Xbox system.

My suggestion is to go to a GameStop or other "Gaming" store and play with each system. Talk to the folks that work there (I've found the employees at the local GameStops here to be quite knowledgeable about the different systems), and just get a feel for what you like.

If you're gonna bring a 360 along with you, make sure it spends as little time on the ramp and in the bins as possible. I seen some things man. Heard some things and seen some things. Ain't good things neither.

You dunno man, you weren't there.

But seriously, what he said. A ramper's gonna break it.

Or steal it. Saw someone CHECK one of those Sam's Club bundles around Xmas time. I was loading it into the front bin of a 737 thinking "What moron checked this......and didn't put it in a bag or a different box?!?" Wonder if it ever made it to its destination.

I know some of the guys doing aerial mapping cart around game consoles of one flavor or another, but they're a little less space-restricted on the amount of luggage they tote along and don't have rampers to worry about. One of the tricks of the trade is having the right adapter for the hotel TV, since they vary widely.

Personally, I think a netbook-sized PC would be more useful.

Back when I was on the road, I did consider buying one of those tiny RC helicopters (Havoc Heli, etc) to kill time with in the room, they look kinda fun. :)

Dude, if you carry one on the road with you, I'll go buy one, just so I can smack your ass down. My cousin just bought Modern Warfare and I can't stop playing.

You'd better practice!

I've been trying to get my skillz up. I poked my head into a multiplayer match and got the beat down.

Havoc Heli + 23 foot ceilings + cats = crazy fun.

Oh man, we might need to start a COD MW2 multiplayer game just for us on jetcareers. Too bad some people have Xbox360s and others have PS3s. Would be nice if they found a way to let multiplayer games use both systems against each other.

when I flew with you, you made me hold your turban on that silk pillow thingy...:pirate: (and pull the gear)

And thats why we get along :) My cousin lives down the street from me. We played MW till 2am last night. I'm sick right now and called out for a two day. I'm finding staying home playing video games helps me rest up. It really does lol, otherwise I'd be driving around town running errands..

Hey Bumblebee, wanna be on the OC?

Aye, it's unfortunate.

In the meantime, ya'll add me when ya see me. We can party up when I'm online.
