you've got to be kidding me...do you actually believe that? if anything, he'll get kudo's from mgmt but nothing else in return cuz otherwise they have to up everyone else right?! but in other words, they'll probably ask for concessions next week... hahaha...sheesh....

Cmon Kristie. You know how such a benign activity can be used by an organization to boost favorable marketing and advertising. For 95% of the pilots, it's business as usual. For the small percentage that experience something like this, and it's perceived as commendable and expertly done by both pilots and media. . .oh yes, they'll be compensated.

Even the simulator instructors will receive kudos.
 
I wonder how many experts they had on TV or phone explaining what was going on it cockpit and what will happen when they land and so on and so on
 
If we find out Szluka was in that cockpit someone had better have paramedics sent to my place, because I'm going to laugh until I pass out!:cwm27:

I REALLY wish that they would be compensated, but I imagine the best those pilots can expect is a letter of commendation from the chief pilot.

To think otherwise IMO is just crazy......

Well, they did give me a $25 gift certificate to Best Buy after we lost an engine on initial climbout. I'm serious. The captain refused to take the GC, asked the chief pilot "are you joking?". He said he'd rather get nothing at all than something that petty. Me on the other hand, I graciously took the gift certificate and spent it that weekend. I would've taken the captain's too if I had been there when he threw it back at them.

They also gave me a signed certificate of appreciation from a the head of our training department, an FAA rep, and an ALPA guy. I'm sure these guys will get a little more recognition because of the media attention, and the uniqueness of the emergency.

Perhaps. . .again, performing routine acts under less than routine circumstances are what heroes make.
 
I really should keep my opinions to myself as (lots of people say), I have no real world experience...

But why do you guys feel they should be compensated for handling an emergency? The way I see it, it's what they are trained to do and it's a part of their job.

Don't flame me. Take this as someone asking why PFT is bad.

I actually never really thought of that, but this is the same logic that I use for firefighters. Why should firefighters get everything that they get, when in reality, going in to fires, burning buildings etc. is the job in which they signed on to do, fully knowing what can happen. In fact, that is the reason that many become firefighters because they love that adrenaline rush they get when they work (plus, most of the pay doesnt hurt either). It's a pretty screwy system when you think about it (IMHO)

Awesome job guys! I am in training currently at ExpressJet and I can't wait to start flying the line with pros like that!
