I'd hold your emotional response until both sides of the story come out. I've worked in airport management a mere three years, but that's long enough to have realized that the actual story rarely matches the pax's report of it.

I would agree if there wasn't a video of the incident and the charges against her were not dropped by the judge, but it isn't looking so good for the airport with this one.

Not sure where the airport authority would be liable - depends on how they structure their police force (internal vs. local agency).

It wouldn't be the TSA even though they are named for the large scale because the scuffle was with Airport Police hired by the Airport Authority. They are independent from the Memphis Police or Sheriff. This case will certainly change things everywhere. I am really surprised the amount they are seeking for damages is so low. But unlike too many people, this mother seems like an honest person. Not money hungry.

First, there's a video? I mean, I'm sure there's security camera footage, but has it been made public?

Second, if you read up on these incidents, the charges often get dropped, even when the person was undeniably in the wrong.

If the account in the news story is accurate, I'm definitely waiting to hear the other side.

My heart goes out to this family, this is something that should have NEVER happened.

Suing for 100k just isn't enough for this senseless act.

I read $100k for damages plus an undisclosed punitive amount.

Yup. A pilot I sponsored during his furlough worked as a supervisor for the TSA in DFW during "recess". Some of the stories he told me just blew me away.

Especially in the age of social media.

People absolutely love to be outraged at the TSA almost on a pornographic level (LIKE IF YOU AGREE! RETWEET! SHARE! GOFUNDME! CHANGE.ORG!) and if the legend is saucier than the actual event, we'd rather stay with legend.

Far less outrage for a guy getting a AR-15 in the face in Ohio because he was a tourist… I mean terrorist!
