Would you make this flight in a C172...

Being down there, wishing to be up here <beats> Being up here wishing to be down there. :p

I used to be the same way, NOGO's all the time.
Then I got an Instrument Rating, Commercial & Multi.

Now every once in a while I may feel uncomfy about a flight with potential ice, rain or clouds (wind has never alarmed me much) and if I feel like it would be smarter not to do it - I won't go.

Make your decision and stick to it.
Your personal comfort level is the only thing that should matter.

Yes, good for him. I bet he feels about six feet taller and/or sweating the return...

Sometimes you just have to take the plunge.

Totally ok, totally safe.

What's the problem?

Inexperience, mostly. But how do you gain experience? By surviving bad judgment, right? :)

This is probably a decent enough flight to start to stretch his legs out a bit. I learned a heck of a lot when I flew a Cessna 172 from Arlington, TX to Ann Arbor, MI and back. Coming back, it required me stopping at least 6 times between Ann Arbor and Memphis to check the weather. I was dodging thunderstorms all day in that little POS airplane, but I learned a lot about what I could accomplish in a Cessna 172 on that trip!

:yeahthat:

I got a good taste of that on my first real "trip."

Good decision, I hope the ride home is nice, and sorry I could not make it. =/

Thanks for making the trip. Hope your flight home was safe and uneventful.

PS - A message board may not be the best place to ask for advice on a go/no-go decision. After reading this thread even I'M undecided on whether you should go! lol. The fact of the matter is that it's your butt in the seat and NOBODY is going to question the conservative decision to stay at home if you are concerned about icing. (and if a certain high-school Prom King wants to tease you about it... tell him where to stick it!) ;)
