Re: World\'s Largest Passenger Plane Unveiled

I like the paint job much better than the "olde" Airbus livery. I wonder if the airlines will want the big "bus" for a ton of passengers, or the smaller more efficent Boeing 7E7.

Good Day

Re: World\'s Largest Passenger Plane Unveiled

The A380 and 7E7 serve different niches. The A380 is the right fit for certain airlines and their structure such as the 7E7 is fit for certain airlines and their structue. It is kind of like the polar strategies seen with Northwest Airlines and jetBlue Airways. Northwest may have some of the oldest and least efficient aircraft operating (due to age) and they are making money. Just as jetBlue may have some of the newest (lots of capital) and most efficient aircraft and they are making money. Thus, it is not a factor of better, it is all about which airline can utilize their aircraft to suite their structure and their needs.

I think the A380 looks lovely in this photo. Well done Airbus on the paint scheme.

Re: World\'s Largest Passenger Plane Unveiled

I heard they we're having significant W & B issues with the A380, making it unable to get off the ground. Any truth to this?

Brian, I almost barfed when I saw that avatar (and I'm a republican). I started looking at the bottom and worked my way up and then it was like BAM!

One can only imagine the excitement and anticipation in terrorist circles.

Re: World\'s Largest Passenger Plane Unveiled

Absolutely amazing plane, just look at the size of it. Although I do still prefer the smaller regional jets

Love the new Airbus paint scheme. Aloft, I agree 100% with you imagine if terrorists were able to take control of one of theses beasts. Imagine the mayhem!!!

Re: World\'s Largest Passenger Plane Unveiled

At least it's not pilotless...and there'll probably be enough rowdys at the bar to prevent terrorist takeovers...

Are you referring to the A380 or it's engines?

[/ QUOTE ]
Brian, I'm referring to the length of A380.
But the engines are bigger too,
A380--With Rolls-Royce or Engine Alliance, they have about 68000 lbs of thrust.

777-3s--- With Pratt & Whitney, GE or Rolls-Royce they produce 90000 to 92000 lbs and the ERs come with 115000 lbs of trust (GE).

Re: World\'s Largest Passenger Plane Unveiled

I didn't know JetBlue bought the A380. Isn't that B6's livery??

Whoa, you scared me there for a second. Airbus is doing fine with their current fleet. The last thing we need are new aircraft orders in their inventory (Besides more A320s and the new Embraers which start delivery mid 2005).

Europeans Unveil 50-Acre Airport Lounge
by Scott Ott

(2005-01-19) -- To accomodate the 840-passenger loads of the new super-sized Airbus A380 jetliner, the European Union (EU) today unveiled its first in a series of 50-acre airport lounges.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony in the lounge featured 500 high-stepping Lipizzaner stallions bearing 500 licensed French mimes in a dramatic choreographed routine.

French President Jacques Chirac celebrated Europe's new dominance of the so-called "mega-niche," during a spectacular nine-hour ceremony in the lounge today.

"America once became great simply by making big cars, big ships and big buildings," said Mr. Chirac, whose nation recently opened the world's highest overland suspension bridge. "Now Europe is ready to challenge America's greatness."

The expansive new airport lounge, dubbed Le Nez de Gaulle, features vast arrays of wide-body chairs, numerous Jumbotron screens displaying CNN International, a full European football stadium, a 35-acre frisking-and-sniffing security complex, and restrooms with a maximum capacity of 1600 simultaneous users.

Parking lots will still be located within a 15-mile radius of the airport.
