Working as a Ramp Agent

Greetings Everybody!

I just got offered an interview to work for Air Wisconsin @ Chicago O'Hare to as a Ramp Agent. I'm really interested in this job because of the potential networking contacts and the ability to get my foot in the door. I'm just looking for some opinions ... Will this maybe help me out when I get closer to the hiring minimums and hopefully raise an eyebrow to the Chief-Pilot or HR rep? I know the job may not be the best but after serving time in Kuwait/Iraq not too long ago ... I'd say this is gotta be better then life over there.

Hey, congrats on the job. I don't know your whole situation but I would say take it. Working for the airlines in any capcity is a great experience. I have a degree from CU-Boulder and then went to work for the TSA, that was a bad move so I then went to work at Frontier Airlines here in Denver as a ramper. Probably the most educated ramper they have ever had. I had a blast, learned alot, and met some great people. I then moved up to the tower into the Operation's dept. I love that too and still get the chance to pick up shifts on the ramp to get a good work out from time to time. Recently I have had some interaction with the Chief Pilot, the VP of Flight ops and even the President of Flight Safety. Not too bad when those three guys know your name. I wish you luck in whatever you do, most importantly if you are going to work for peanuts, make sure you ENJOY it. That is the key!

Thanks Timbuff10!

I've always wanted to work for an airline, hopefully this will work out for the best. I'd rather fly for them but until the timing is right ... I'd love to get my foot in the door by this means. Yeah .. sure wouldn't mind having the Chief Pilot knowing my name. Thanks again!

Thanks guys! Yeah ... guess I gotta start somewhere. I'll just make sure that it is my personal duty to get to know the Chief Pilot and everybody I can.

Great idea working for Air Wisconsin! I went to work for Delta Air Lines Global Services on the ramp for two summers and the contacts I made there helped me land an internship through my University. No matter what anyone says, stick with it and there are contacts to be made!

Have Fun

Thanks for the info!

Cashman~ Where do you go to school? I saw that your location was Daytona Beach ... you go to ERAU? Yeah I definately will be aiming toward an internship.
