Women Airline Pilots

[ QUOTE ]
What % of female airline pilots have ATPs as compared to males?

Since you don't need an ATP to be a F/O, it may be very difficult to find the exact percentage. It's easy to keep track of certificates issued, but how do you keep track of how pilots use them??? Plus all of those ATP rated pilots (male or female) may not be flying for an air carrier. So many factors to consider. The only way to get the real numbers would be if each airline kept track of such figures.

Well, start with this:

1. What percentage of male and female airline pilots, respectively, hold the ATP certificate.

and/or

2. What percentage of male and female pilots, respectively, only have the commercial?

The figures I posted in my first reply for the Comm & ATP are:
Commercial: Men-121,856 vs Women- 5,807
ATP* Men-141,596 vs. Women- 4,411
* Total includes women who have dual certificates.

So I guess you will have to do some subtracting for the dual certificate holders. #2 should be easy to find, but #1can only truly be determined by each employer as they would know how many of ther pilots were flying with only a commercial. No?

We can attack the problem from a different direction.

How many airline pilots are there of each gender? We know how many ATPs there are of each, so that may give us some idea?

At the regional airline where I work, the percentage of female pilots is just over 6%. However, there are very few women near the top of the seniority list (I think our most senior female pilot is around #100 out of 650 pilots).

Although I hold an ATP (ASEL/AMEL), FO's are only required to have a commercial certificate with multiengine and instrument ratings. One "plus" to being an FO though, is that a second-class medical is quite sufficient. The Captains are required to hold a first class medical.

F/Os who also perform relief pilot duties need the ATP and 1st class, so not all F/Os just need a 2nd.
