Wishful thinking...

His wife is probably making him sell it:pirate:

Thats what I was thinking.

Wife: "You need to sell that damn money pit airplane!"

Husband: "Look! see? I put it up for sale, just like you wanted me to dear!" (all while laughing inside, knowing it won't sell.)

It was a warm spring morning, neighborhood was quiet. The turmoil brewing within the household next door was unimaginable. With birds chirping, a fresh morning dew on the lawn, and the sweet smell of the air it seemed all too perfect. A lone husband walks down the drive to retrieve the morning paper.

Suddenly, a front screen door flies open with fury! A large woman dressed in a moo-moo, barefoot with child in one hand, coffee in another and a cigarette bouncing wildly with each profane laden sentence appears and has all intention of confronting said husband about his "aero-plane"....

(Your turn.)

Dunno how many times I'm going to have to say this, but with the times and condition that price is only slightly unreasonable. You could probably get between 60 and 65 for it pretty easily with the right buyer.

No dude.. it's very unreasonable - that whole Mexican residency thing devalues it a lot. Not to mention the engine will probably need an overhaul in the near future...considering it's 16 years old and according to the specs hasn't really run much. And it's pretty much out of annual now...

And it isn't exactly a seller's market these days....

The airplane probably comes with an ocean front lot in Arizona.

Duuuuuude,

The Mexican residency wont mean much since it's been 16 years and it's been in annual since then and has logbooks. As far as the engine, I've seen a lot worse.

I'm not saying it's a steal. If you want a steal buy a 15,000 hour airframe, it'll still be safe if it's been maintained well. Notice that I said "with the right buyer."

Low time 152's are rare these days, long range tanks nearly nonexistent (although I doubt that will mean much) and if that's what you're looking for the price the owner is asking is within 10k of what you'll have to pay. I can see the "firm" stipulation making it not sell, and that's about it. I'm inclined to agree with the "not a motivated seller," theory.

Wow, that sentence just about made my day.

We're not buying your 152!! And that is final!

Are the long range tanks really a plus on a 152 though? Full tanks would really chomp into what little useful load is available, unless you only weight 100 lbs or so. 69K is just too much for an aircraft with limited capabilities like the 152, especially one with several red flags like this one appears to have.

Well that's why I think the long range tanks wouldn't affect the price much, though they'd have their uses.

The airplane spent almost half its life in Mexico. Complete logs are an entirely relative statement. The "complete" logs may be in Spanish... or 'relatively complete'. Was it N-registered while it was based in Mexico? Realistically, that airplane just poses too many questions - all of which would have to have extremely favorable answers to even be in the ball park. And again, it's a $70,000 Cessna 152.

But, I guess things are only worth what someone is willing to pay...

Yep, and certain people are willing to pay a premium for low time 152's. I didn't say I'd pay that price, I just said wasn't completely unreasonable.

I don't think you're incorrect - back when flight schools were loading up on G1000 equipped 172s at $250k a pop, I thought it might be smart to invest in some IFR equipped 152s to offer students a much more financially feasible option. But I think a "premium" on most 152 would be between $35k-$40k. This ad screams to me that someone insisted that a broker list their aircraft, and to keep from being bothered with calls of "is that a typo?" he just said "seller is firm, leave me the hell alone".
