A nacelle is certified to contain any type of failure from any engine that is certified for the airplane... unless it's not. Sure, the CFM56 isn't suppose to blow up, but the nacelle is also supposed to stop it from shredding the cabin if it does.
Airbus had to add kevlar blankets to the inside of their 32XNEO nacelle because the PW1000G had a tendency to punch through the old CEO nacelles.
I suppose Boeing will do the same, now that there is enough data to support it? I’m still not really following the logic between a 300 yr old NG blowing a motor, and it somehow being Boeing’s fault, just like every other Airbus incident is also Boeing’s fault?
