Wichita Mid-Continent Airport

The supercell in OKC is headed directly for us. The weather dude on TV says just before 11pm local it will be here, although he doesn't know if it will still be that powerful when it gets here. I would hope it would weaken once the sun goes down especially considering its a supercell and not associated with a line, but you never know.

It is moving very slowly. I would imagine by 11pm it would lessen in strength due to the loss of heat. Best wishes Zap.

The last couple of radar updates shows the precip falling off by a substantial margin. Hopefully it's falling apart and not just cycling.

Tornado season seems to be hitting late this year.

Grew up in Shawnee,OK. Luckily my family is accounted for, missed some by as little as a half mile.

I love watching the storm chasing drama and seeing the awesome power of these storms, but its unsettling having one pass just South of us here in Texas last week, and now another so close to family.

Everyone be on alert in the Midwest, the season is underway!

Good to hear your family is ok. One of the forecasters on tv said this was one of the mildest tornado seasons on record until this outbreak.

Prayers out to anyone affected, especially anyone in the Shawnee area, based on damage they said it looked like an EF4, damn.

Yeah, I'm going to go a head and disagree with the notion of few super-cells that you are implying. I grew up in Nebraska, went to school in OK and now live in MO. Most of the storms that develop over the Plains in late spring are super-cell as opposed to squall line storms. They are very localized but very destructive. I've replaced more than a few roofs in my day from hail out of super-cells. Most of the large damaging tornadoes (EF4+) that occur on the Plains are a result of monstrous super-cells. Squall line storms tend to have smaller leading edge spin ups that are usually never larger than an EF2.

Everything still standing out there in Olathe?

Anyone ready for round 2, or possibly 3 for some people? SPC outlooks aren't looking very good for anyone who might be trying to pick up after yesterday. It's definitely going to be another nasty weather day across the region.

From what I hear, KC had nothing but a bit of wind and rain. The storms banded together and lost a lot of strength before they went thru the KC area.

Yeah, that was basically it. Lost my phone, cable and internet, all provided by the same provider, for the night, but it wasn't that bad at all.

That's terrible. It wasn't a fast moving storm and they forecast this outbreak beginning on Thursday. I don't understand how people still don't seek proper cover.

Yes, the outlook showed severe weather chances for the region several days ago, but you won't know what's headed for your neighborhood until about 60 minutes beforehand. When the cells start to fire people get their ungaraged vehicles into neighborhood parking structures (malls and office complexes near us). We clear out the interior closet and make sure the bugout bag is ready, and then start watching the local news and Facebook. My wife is director of a unit in a local hospital, so she makes sure that patients and staff are informed and prepared.

Hope everyone weathered the storm okay. I miss the weather in the midwest for its sheer awesomeness. Probably the most facinating phenomena I witnessed was cumulomammatus just prior to a triple funneled tornado forming and touching down.

Although recently I just witnessed golfball sized hail and that was pretty awesome too.

Reported as a 2 mile wide debris, wedge tornado. Absolutely terrible luck in Moore.

Feel bad for people who've suffered losses. Yet, at the same time, isn't it sort of like people who live on a Mississippi River bank and rebuild their house every few years after flooding. I wouldn't really call it "bad luck" so much as, part of living there.
