WIA worth it?

Been trying to look for some "gouge" specific to job fairs, apparently I suck at the Internet. What sort of questions can be expected from the recruiters? All airlines relatively the same? This'll be my first fair; Delta is the primary target with a visit to Jet Blue first to work out the kinks...

LOL

B6 Recruiter: "Hi, you interested here in jetBlue?"

"Nah, you're just my practice girl for Delta"

Completely depends on the airline and the circumstance. I recently spoke to Alaska at a job fair, and my time with the Chief Pilot was primarily discussing my resume, and then a bit of discussion about what I felt made Alaska different than other 121 airlines. Another guy at the same fair, speaking to the same Chief Pilot, was asked about Alaska's core values and what they meant to him. Still another guy I know who spoke to one of the HR folks at Alaska was asked, "What does Alaska Spirit mean to you?" He had not studied up enough to know what it really meant, so he stumbled on the question to say the least.

Oh they can tell. The stories I found out just by flying with some of the CAs that have gone and done these events.

I'd highly suggest stopping at an airline desk only if you truly are interested in working there.

Thanks for the advice. It's not like I'm anti-Jet Blue by any means, I've just definitely got a ranked list. Delta wins because of their bases and where I live. What I was implying, since this is my first ever job fair, is that isn't it a good idea to have some practice before going to talk with your dream job? Kind of like going through girlfriend(s) before meeting your wife? Haha. I've researched at home, tried to ask for advice, but nothing can replicate a good handshake and productive conversation.

I guess I also view legacy carriers as providing a more stable career. In my perfect fantasy world, I move to one more airline and work there for 35 years...no more starting at the bottom of the list after that. Now, given Pan Am, TWA, Eastern, etc., I know that even the biggest, mightiest airlines can fall by the wayside, but the list of defunct "mid-majors" is a much longer one. Not like I have a magic eight ball by any means, just trying to play what I view as the best odds.

I'd definitely go to JetBlue once I get 1000 PIC at my current regional if the circumstances were right, and I'd be happy staying there if I could look through a crystal ball and see that they'd be in business 35 years from now. I don't think I'll come across as not caring when I give them a visit; I've applied, I've researched them, but if I stumble over my words or hesitate with a certain question, I guess I'd rather do so with them than Delta.

Thanks for the insights, sounds pretty conversational with perhaps a few catchphrases thrown in "Alaska Spirit" "Delta Difference". Anyone speak with JetBlue or Delta recently?

Where are you in your career at the moment? Regional FO, CA?

I'd be honored and proud to make JB. I liked their training facility when there but the lodge wasn't open yet. (If was Feb '15). The crews I've met seem really happy.

Sigh...

Who knew that airlines were like children in the sense that you had to love them all equally? Apparantly I should just go to a job fair for the first time, and have my first experience, full of nerves, be with my #1 choice...god forbid that I speak with another airline first.
Of course JetBlue would be a step up from the regionals, of course I'd be happy to go there one day if the circumstances dictated that.
If you consider my attempt to better myself by gaining valuable interview-type experience with as many airlines as possible a waste of time, than that's on you not me. Under your logic I'm not allowed to talk with anyone except Delta...not allowed to have a #2, #3, etc option. Is that really how job fairs work?

That's not what I said or meant. Go talk to them, and be yourself. But don't lie. If they ask if JetBlue is your first choice, be honest.

I don't have a problem with you talking to everyone, but don't tell them all they are number 1.

The good years of not being frozen 5 yrs by Age 65. Consider yourself lucky!

Just don't put all your eggs in the one basket called Delta. What base(s) are you specifically interested in?

I don't intend to, I'd say yes to the first of the big three to come along, if I ever have that opportunity, Delta's just what I'm hoping for. I live 20 minutes from DTW and intend to keep living in Michigan. I've commuted, and I've also had DTW as a base...it's amazing how vastly different the QOL is between the two. I figure worst case, I'd end up with an ORD base with either of the others, which is at least drivable if crap hits the fan. I'd love to do int'l flying eventually too which plays into the decision.

I lived in Canton too. I ended up moving out, no regrets. Good luck and keep your options open.
