Why such a lengthy ATIS?

Here's one from a while back from a guy I know:
Airport has been doing construction, the east end of the runway keeps getting closed. Tower is good about relaying "runway 7 has been shortened, runway 7 clear to land". My friend grabs the ATIS code, calls tower, gets cleared to land on runway 7 short...and on short final sees the sweeper truck on the 1000 foot markers. Guess he shoulda listened to the whole ATIS, turns out at this particular time it was the WEST 1500ish feet of the runway that were closed. So now he listens to the full ATIS. Especially if he knows there is construction.

Somehow I always seem to time my arrival so that the new ATIS is coming out right as I get into the busy approach-controlled airspace. Pain in the butt when you're single-radio, even if the Garmin 480 does have that nice "monitor" feature.

The biggest single thing I like about my jet? The ACARS and printer. Seriously. Best thing ever.

"There's a new ATIS up!"

"K hold on...okay we have foxtrot, Air Carrier 4334."

Just get the letter.

Me: "Checking in w uhhhhhhh..... Juliette"
Phx App:" Good guess, it is Juliette, and you're psychic."

Just busy, really, and forgot what I'd heard for a moment. But I got a laugh.

Or if you don't know it, it's "the numbers".
