...64 degrees North Dakotans insist on running their air-conditioners? I have 3 central A/C units outside my bedroom window RUNNING as if it's 120 degrees outside and it would be nice to open up my window without hearing like 70dB of noise :D haha

cuz they're probably sweating and dehydrating in the schorching heat .and wear your headsets to block out them dB's.
 
I wonder the same thing about the family that lives below me. It was like the second the snow melted they've had their AC going non-stop. They're electric bill has to be insane. Then again, I can't tell if they're just running the fan though. However, with our units, just running the fan is pretty useless. Especially compared to just opening the dang window.

Allergies for me. If I have the window open during the night I'll be weezing for most of the next day.

Sucks to have allergies, but at least NODAK electricity is cheap compared to Excel. Never had a bill over 60 bucks a month (so 30 for me) and the AC is never off, just set to a temp.

I actually did a test last night to see if it was just their fan. I had my roommate turn on the fan to see if it'd turn on the unit...it didn't...then he turned on the a/c and I was blasted with 234,493 dB of a/c unit noise. Must've been a Menard's special...cheap noisy kind. haha

You know that is the wierdest thing about the energy cost. In June and July when it is always humid I have my a/c turned down to 68 degrees because for some reason with the humidity outside it just didn't seem like the apartment cools down. My electric bill is always around $25-$30...and that's a 1100 sq foot apt. In the winter my bill will be $35-40, so for some reason heating costs more. In April when neither the heater or a/c is used, the bill is about $30. Electricity is very cheap through NODAK.
 
I've got that electric radiant heat in my apartment. I dont know what the square footage is, but our electric bill ran up to something like 120 during that month when it was at sub -20 this last winter. Electricity is all I have to pay for luckily.

Wow that's insane. I guess it really does make a difference to live in an apartment with central heating/air. My friend lives in an apartment with radiant heat and wall-unit A/C. His electric bill is $80 a month no matter what. If anyone thinks they're saving money buy moving into an apartment $50-100 cheaper a month should consider that they may save even more by moving into an apt with central heating-a/c. I think it's the fact that having a thermostat to keep the area cool at a more gradual/constant rate makes the electrical usage minimal.

That and most places around here with window AC units for the entire apt suck ass.

Legacy isn't the best, but I like it there. Having your own laundry is the best thing ever. I can't believe how many new apt buildings are going up without washer and dryers in each apt.

To hell with laundrymats and share laundry for every floor. I despise it even more than women drivers!

Yeah it's so convenient to have a washer/dryer in apt. I love how the dryer functions as a dryer/automatic-ironer/dresser-drawer :D ...since I hate folding clothes and putting them into my dresser.

When I visited a friend in another city in CA, I had more than half of my clothes stolen out of the dryer. The person was "nice enough" to place them all on the table in the shared laundry facility and pick out all the label-• Abercrombie, Banana Republic, Gap, and Express pants/shirts that they wanted. Good thing I don't wear that many trendy clothes anymore to where I COULD use a community dryer...but it scared the hell out of me enough to only rent an apt that had it's own washer/dryer. Plus the extra money you spend in quarters to wash your clothes usually meets or exceeds the additional cost of renting an apt with it's own washer/dryer.
 
Yeah, Im paying 250 a month plus about 70 bucks in utilities. I've got the wall unit AC and it actually works really well, especially after we bought some fans to move the air around better. It's a big unit though, it definitly wouldn't go in a window. :)

I agree, it's asinine to move into an apartment without your own laundry. I can't express how much more convinient that was when I first moved out of the dorms.

ive got 5 bdrm, TWO kitchens, TWO laundry rooms, TWO living rooms, backyard, big garage, new appliances, countertops, carpet........

280 a month per guy.

house = the way the pro's roll. :nana2:
 
The thing thats great about houses is 1) you can blast music as loud as you want without complaints, for the most part, and 2) you have a yard to screw around in.

Yeah having a SFR (single-family-residence...real estate appraiser terminology) is great because for example......I was watching a movie last night and having a big home theatre subwoofer does not go well with the neighbors... so I end up just turning it off. I was watching Jurassic Park the other DAY (not even night) and the neighbor came by to ask if "everything was okay"...and it wasn't even that loud. :confused:

Oh god do I love when neighbors bug me durning the day. Meanwhile, they're 12 kids that each family has are running around at all hours of the day and night!:mad: Protection people!!! I kid I kid. :) Sort of.

Oh I know... I have a friend who has a neighbor who complains all the time about his TV being too loud (its just the TV speakers!) because ND building code is, well, non-existant, so walls are built with one peice of drywall between neighbors... yet they have loud about 6 kids running around early in the morning waking him up.

loud music + basement + partying/boozing + smoking outside in the garage = great times always with no infringement upon the neighbors.
