If anything from the automotive world transfers to these things, those piston rings let go in a bad way!
Nah, just 34 years and a couple thousand hours of use.If anything from the automotive world transfers to these things, those piston rings let go in a bad way!![]()
That's how you know you're having fun.I am sure this day had nothing to do with that blow by on the rings.

Quick update: crank is done, after 2500ish hours and 57 years they ground the mains .003 under and kept the rod journals standard. Not too shabby. Also got the AD inspections on the inside of the front end of the crank and the gear attach area on the rear done. Also a bunch of the other parts are done, and the case has been sent off. So I should be ready to start putting stuff together pretty soon.
Yup, that's the one. It actually technically doesn't apply to this engine since its a 150 but I guess the shop does it anyway. The Ad on the hub, is that Lycoming SB505 ?
Otherwise sounds like a nice & clean overhaul.
Will do. The other half owner has to cough up $$$ to the shop before we can get our parts shipped, then I'll have something to photograph.Looks awesome man. Post more pics!![]()
Major argh today. Evidently either the cam is too big or when they overhauled the case they bored the cam bearings too small as I got the case all put together and then found that the cam wouldn't turn. Argh.
