Why does the 757 have such a great wake turbulence signature?

Take it back. YOU TAKE THAT BACK!

Worst and most common wake I used to get is behind an Airbus 320 Series. Not that its worse than the 757 but it seems to throw out the largest wake in the Non Heavy weight class.

Agree. Always seem to hit their wake. Usually not on final, but when ATC turns us on the base for a visual. Worst I ever hit was a Cathay 777-300 going into JFK. 0 wind at altitude and we were on the same arrival. For those that have flown the ERJ-145, remember that T-bar on the DV window? Yeah, that thing was turned perpendicular to my head. Hit the wake and mashed my noggin on the pointy part of the T-bar. From that point on, when getting into an airplane, before any company written flow pattern, the first thing I did was turn that bar parallel to my head.

I always turned that thing around. I believe that's what killed the Captain on the ASA Brasilia crash in 1995.

Some of the nastiest wake I've ever been behind is an MD-80. That'll wake you up!

I finally tried In and Out Burger a few months back when I was in LAS for the first time. I failed to see what all the fuss was about.

This. The significant other made such a big deal about it. When I finally had the time, I walked over to the one by LAX. The line was crazy, and it took like 25 minutes to get my food.

The food itself was very meh, the facility itself was no cleaner than the average McDonalds and the prices were still highish. Other than acknowledging they must have some great PR, I failed to see what all the hub-bub was about. So I guess I'll be the toolbag that points out the Emperor has no clothes.

Five Guys clearly provides a far superior mulched cow experience. Better burger, WAY better fries, and all you can eat peanuts while you wait.

A Double double with fries and a drink is $5, maybe 6 something with tax. The same meal at five guys is around $15. Yet in-n-out is expensive?

Do you think it makes a difference if the 757 has winglets or not? I would think the non-winglets 757 would produce more wake.

Also is it acceptable to fly at least a dot high, then correct somewhere on short final?

I don't know how close you guys really feel comfortable getting behind one, but I had a SWA driver follow a 753 in today and he ran right up his backside. Turned in and followed him ~3 miles in trail or less all way down. Most guys keep more distance between when following visually.

We have MD88s, B737s, and RJs landing 1.5-2.0 behind them all the time here and we haven't heard any backlash about it from the airlines.

Shake Shack beats Five Guys and In N Out anyday.
I've heard great things about that place, unfortunately they seem to have locations all over the the world, but not in the western U.S.. I tried Five Guys with an open mind and thought it was good but nothing to write home about. I will always like a Double Double well done with grilled onions for the same reason many people think their mom is the best cook in the neighborhood, familiarity and nostalgia. I wish I had kept track of how many I've had in the last 35 or so years. Especially since I have a tendency to eat them two at a time. In N Out was a gathering point for everyone in my neighborhood/age group when I was a teen so that would explain my nostalgia. Do the Five Guys fans maybe feel the same way for similar reasons? And it's a burger made from quality ingredients that tastes good.

When we got in N Out up here in DFW I went

I haven't been back

Give me whataburger over that trash. Five guys is mediocre at best

I wonder how much of that is due to good pilotage....staying above them and landing long.

Glad I'm not the only DFW guy who thought that. Seemed when it came here every person I knew was saying "you have to try it", "it's amazing", "best burger ever".

So I tried it. Twice. At different locations. Crap.

Then they said it was because I was in Texas, so I tried it in California. Just as crap.

Best burger I've found around Dallas has been Liberty Burger near Addison. Full of hipsters, but damn if they don't cook a good cow.

They opened an In N Out at the corner of Sherman Way and Balboa a few years ago, I went and I was not impressed with the food. However I went to the Balboa and Lassen location with the big chrome sign that has been there forever and it was everything I expected. The one I grew up eating at is at the corner of Foothill and Lowell in La Crescenta, I still live close by and when I get a chance I still go there and walk-up order and eat at the outside tables in the back.

And I still don't understand why people don't talk about Tommy's, another Socal tradition. Regardless 757s are bad ass and leave a wake to let you know it's been there, kinda like a dog in some respects.

In my opinion:
  • In n Out - Okay, but nothing to write home about
  • Five Guys - Absolutely the worst, greasiest, limpest, disgusting fries I have ever had anywhere. Burger was only so-so. Never went back for a second try because once was already the most I could handle.
My favorite affordable burger chains:
  • Whataburger (Texas based chain; a big, tasty, traditional burger; make a pretty good green chili cheeseburger)
  • Blake's Lottaburger (New Mexico based chain, just moved into El Paso; great green chili cheeseburger)
Looking forward to trying El Paso's newest chain arrival Mooyah Burger.
