Why do you love your uniform?

I love my uniform because of the hat...:laff: Oh... Did I just open up a whole other can of worms?? I kid... I kid... :)

I enjoy wearing mine, because people like to strike up conversations about being a pilot...and I love that! I enjoy talking to people about flying, after all, that's pretty much how I got talked into being a pilot..through word of mouth!

just out of curiosity, what kind of uniform does a PP-ASEL wear, and where might it be worn outside of an FBO that it would be a conversation starter?

You are liable to be mocked if you wear anything more formal than a polo and khakis.

and that was the point of my post :) though i am curious to know if he's wearing a full uniform in his cessna / the grocery store.

That sounds like something a Riddle Rat would do...complete with aviator sunglasses in the vegetable aisle.

I should counter this by saying that I wear my work uniform (polo and khakis) to the grocery store all the time...but that's because the only time I go anywhere is on my way to and from work. I don't really have a life.

What I liked:
-Never having to wonder what to wear to work
-I could get dressed in the dark and I know everything matched
-Made packing for work very easy

What I didn't like:
-Cheap quality fabric
-Every item needed alterations to fit properly
-Scratchy fabric
-Polyester
-Pleated pants

About the only thing about the uniform I don't like is the hat. It's not the IDEA of the hat, it's specifically the TYPE of hat the company has chosen. Looks like a skateboard ramp on your head. There are other hats out there that don't add 6" to you height and look like there should be a surfer perched on the apex.

I like the leather jacket for convenience. I DH a LOT now, and it's just so easy to jam the thing in an overhead bin and not worry about it getting wrinkled like the blazer would. Don't have to carry two jackets on an overnight. Just pop the epaulets and the name badge off, and I'm good to go out at night.

The uniform also gives me a snappy tax deduction. :)

For the record, Nessa looks WAAAY better in the pilot shirt and hat than I do.....

Well, since kid i have admired the look and appearance that a pilot uniform makes a person look, and i've dreamed to look like that since then; that's why i love and enjoy to wear my uniform.

I don't wear a uniform yet (hopefully someday), but to me, and as I've said before, the uniform represents tradition, professionalism, commitment to safe flying, and is a reflection of the high standards in aeronautics. That and they look so damn sharp, especially the double breasted ones like Delta's. :)

I think that also applies for ground crew as well. My dad always wears his mechanic's uniform to standard, neatly pressed and maintained, probably from his Air Force training. The uniform inspires confidence.

In fact, this moldy old (re)post of mine describes exactly how I feel about uniforms:

Maybe I'm just an aviation nerd or old fashioned, but to me, sharp crewmembers' uniforms are (both Air and Ground) a symbol of competence, professionalism, and authority in the finest nautical and aeronautical traditions. A tradition that spans literally hundreds of years that says "I take responsibility for the safe passage of these souls to their port of destination and the safe transport of their cargo to the fullest extent of my professional abilities."

I like my uniform because I can spill beer on it after work and it won't stain more than the rest of the stains.

We have to wear them to our aviation classes and to fly...and when I go somewhere around town between classes, people ask me about flying...

Oh yeah, and it's just freakin' sweet to go out on the weekends and wear a uniform to go flying, kind of like dressing up for sailing in a captains outfit! (i forgot the sarcasm tag) haha..leave me alone about it!

lol..now that I have went back a reread all of the posts...I'm completely embarrassed now. I'm not an ERAU rat...nor do I want to be (I like to dog on them..we have an instructor that went there)...It just happens that you have to run around town for something...oh well.

I like that the puffiness of the standard issue CINTAS shirts hides my muffin top. Well, that and always wearing my blazer. At least that's what I keep telling myself. I'm hosed once summer rolls around....time to go on a diet.
