Why Dispatch Rocks

Quick back story for this picture.

Going into Charlotte, early morning. End up holding because of traffic saturation. CLT can only use one runway before 7am and it backs up everything. Our dispatchers still haven't figured this out yet so they never give us holding fuel. Anyhow, we are coming in from Tri Cities (20 minute flight) and get holding on the arrival. The EFC will give us a fuel on delivery of around 1600lbs, with 2000 being a "normal" bare minimum.

So, I send a nice ACARS message to dispatch informing them of the hold, the EFC and our fuel on board and ask them for a bingo fuel number and an airport to divert to. We did our own planning and figured that would go drop into GSP when our fuel got around 2700.

After pretending to be a NASCAR driver (making left turns) for 10 minutes we got broken out of the hold and sent on our way. About that time this is the message dispatch sent back. Nice to know they care.

I was given an illegal alternate and questioned why I can't do an autoland with the autothrottles deferred a couple nights ago.

I can't remember the last time we didn't hold on that KTRI originator.

We were headed to KC this week and the weather went down to 1/8 of a mile. We started sending ACARS to our DX about 40 minutes out advising a possible hold and diversion. They didn't get back to us for about 25 minutes. Then they wanted us to go to Omaha. Well, we don't have a gate there and no one to call on the ground as far as OPS are concerned. We sent a message asking where they wanted us to go once we arrived in Omaha and who to contact about purchasing fuel. (We wanted to go to KSTL which is a station for us) DX told us to go to Omaha and figure it out on the ground.

I can see it now, just like the old solo XC days. Asking ground for a progressive to the nearest FBO. I'm happy the WX cleared up and we made it into KMCI.

Wait... do we even have plates for Omaha? I thought that was what I was lugging around the Salina, KS plates for.
