“Why did you leave your last position”

I got • canned from my last place because of my abysmal personality.

I like to think I’ve grown and reflected since. How do I indicate this in an interview? I don’t want to lie, but I also don’t want to scare an interviewer into thinking I’ll be a problem child.

It is going to be rough if they call your Boss and ask why you were terminated and if it's you versus someone without that history why would they not choose the other person. Maybe a position for a few years out of dispatch or atleast in Aviation would benefit you to build some kind of a non problematic reputation.

Your previous employer cannot tell ANYONE why you were terminated. It is against the law and can be considered slander in a court of law. Normally, companies contact either an HR verification company and/or the HR department at that company (every place is different). Either way, they can only confirm dates of employement and whether you are rehireable or not. That is it.

Legally speaking you are correct, but scuttle butt travels fast and far. If they flamed out hard any large enough shop is going to have someone there that knows of him which could impede his career progression.

Hiring managers absolutely take comments from the floor to heart if enough people come forward about a candidate.
