Why are TSA employees so dang rude!?

Hey guys, as some of you know I'm a fellow TSA employee; since 2003. As some of my coworkers here said, TSA has a lot of fools running around; I really wished they improved the hiring selection. In regards to what happened at LGA, all of that was uncalled for. For me working at JFK in the IAT, I see bangles all day; it's one of those come through the mag and if they alarm send them to be wanded. But not to talk for all passengers like a lot of people talk for TSA, some of them are real fools also. Me personally it takes a lot to get me off, but when I have somebody put me in a category as being just another uneducated TSA employee; then we might have a problem. I didn't bust my butt for all the years going to college full-time and part-time to get an engineering degree, and going to grad school for another engineering degree. I'm not going to have anybody belittle me because they don't know my struggle, education background, my walk of life, and having to put up with all the crap I deal with because I work for TSA. Now I'm not going to blow up in your face because that's not me, but if a passenger is interested, I'll gladly tell them my background. I've done that before, and got a lot of apologies from people for just coming out their faces and being ignorant. (Disclaimer: None of this is directed to you Chris_Ford or anybody else from here on in who makes comments about lack of education and TSA workers :)). I just think that it's very unfair to categorize and entire agency just because of the disdain you have for it and the bad encounters you may have had passing through the checkpoint. Sorry for ranting, but this really grinds my gears.

To be fair, if you have a grad degree in engineering, what the heck are you doing working for the TSA?

I never once stated that I have my grad degree in engineering; it clearly says that I'm going to grad school. I'm still with TSA because for me it's a guaranteed paycheck and it's keeping my bank account open so I can pay for grad school.

Just a note from the sidelines.

There's about a 100% chance that the bad stories that we all probably have that involve the TSA did not involve our two users here.

I'm very interested in their perspective because it helps us to understand the fuller picture, but let's not make them the poster children of the TSA and treat them poorly. There are other users that work for the TSA on the website but largely don't communicate that publicly because they don't want to deal with "The Drama" (tm).

So lets try to learn from these two guys.

...stop making sense!

Well, we had another guy on from the TSA a few years ago and "we" (me, included) read the poor guy the riot act and he wrote one of those "Dear John" letters that remind me of Motley Crue's song from the "Dr. Feelgood" album track 10.

I hated to see him go like any other user, but dang, let's not over-dramatize the exit.

let's all just get along folks!!
it is not just TSA agents, their inspectors that are supposed to be higher up in the chain are also completely ridiculous.
This guys shows up at our FBO as I myself am getting to work, anyhow I say hi as he passes by me (I had absolutely no clue who he was) but he completely ignores me and just wallks into the flight school. I get in a few minutes after him and while I am getting all settled in I overhear my boss telling him about me and how I am the flight school manager and I know a lot about all the rule and regulations blah blah blah TSA has for Flight schools.
I wish you were all there to see his face when they walked into my office and I was formally introduced as the Flight School manager, never in his life would he have ever imagined a middle eastern looking fellow with a beard greeting him and actually telling him about some of the modifications to the some of the rules at TSA.
I just feel frustrated knowing that he is completely useless and I am coming to the assumption since I proved everybody at work who was listening to our conversation that i know more about the rules in place for flight schools than he does, his excuse: "I normally deal with non FBO type operators"
I really do worry about what is coming next and I am saying this since 95 percent of TSA folks I have met throughout my career in this industry since when I was an ops agent at AS til now that I am in charge of the day to day operation of a pretty large flight school had an absolute pleasure going on "Power trips" and dictating everybody what to do.
This in no way is directed at any single TSA employee but I really do think majority of folks who work there are the type who would not even get hired bagging groceries at Ralphs or Vons.

Another example of why Jetcareers is different from the rest.

Nice.

I think the TSA agents in Phoenix are pretty good, or maybe it is just because I know how Phoenix operates and how they want things done. Perhaps some TSA agents just have a chip on their shoulder because of where they live. :) Like Charles Barkley said today, "Well of course they (the Pistons) have a chip on their shoulder. They live in Detroit." :)

you think the TSA gets shuned by people, try being a Comair pilot walking in the Delta Mainline terminal...i kid i kid. but seriously, why won't you even look at me! :)
