Just an obsevation. Comments please.

I have just talk to one of my instructors friend and he say that his friend got hired by AE without even having his CFI/CFII ticket.

I mean what is this becoming!!

Having a CFI certificate was never a requirement by the airlines, however it was the most common method of building time.

My guess why you see less people getting CFI, is the unfortunate fact that airlines are now hiring with wet commercial tickets. RIDICULOUS!! I think ALPA or someone should step in and set some kind of standard. Because with requirements so low or even non existent, what argument do we have for better pay and work rules?

ahh never knew that but thanks. Now I know.

but yeah, it is ridiculous.

I don't have a CFI, I built my 500TT for a job by flying in the bush. I want to get my CFI, but I didn't want it as a means to an end. Thankfully, that is now a possibility.

because they will never get furloughed, their company will never downsize, they will never bend metal (doh), they will never lose their medical, they will never get fired for unfair reasons, and the airlines can take them, pass them through training at PTS standards, and fly them effectively on the line longer than a higher time pilot who comes on and leaves for a major 6 months earlier.

In my case, it was economics.

I was just wrapping up CFI ground and getting my writtens done when my school put up a sign for anybody with around 400 hours. Colgan Air, it seemed, might be interested.

I went to the interview for the experience and the off chance they'd take me. They did, and I never finished my CFI stuff.

I would have, otherwise. In the meantime, I dropped CJC and now I work for Eagle.

Is teaching amazing experience that many say you shouldn't go without? Absolutely! Is it a set in stone requirement to work for a regional? Nope.

Eagle's not the first to hire with a multi/commercial/inst requirement. In fact, it's one of the last to lower the application mins that low.

if no cfi ticket and how hard is it really to find a job nowdays? I mean fly small companies to build time?

Also, since this is an atp thread, would you get hired off the bat after you finish the ACPP and without your CFI?

Truth is, they arent hiring that low... outside of maybe mesa and possibly piedmont anyway (no thanks to both).

I know its not a great compay either, but I sent my resume to aforementioned Colgan to check into their new development program since they have a base I'd consider (with 400/25 CFI) and was told I dont meet mins. Unless you go to one of the big name schools with the inside "hook up" then you probably wont be considered (ATP may be one of those schools, wouldnt know), but who knows give it a shot theres nothing to lose.

I'd say dont skip the CFI, you learn a lot... but that said I dont know how much longer I can do it, its getting extremely repetitive, I feel sorry for those guys that used to have to do this for 1500+ hours ... please dont let those days retrun!

Very simple, people are hearing nightmare stories about CFI school from their room mates who are a few weeks ahead of them. Some people just don't want to sit in a freezing cold room with a damp carpet from 7am to 9pm at night and then be told to study 5 hours that night and to repeat for an entire week. Oh they are backed up doing rec rides, geez, I am stuck in Jax for 3 weeks! Still glad I went and did it though, otherwise I wouldn't be doing as well as I am right now instructing down in Miami!
