Who's flying your airplane? (The Buffalo News)

I really liked the article.

It seemed well researched and fairly unbiased. That's really what we need here.. Show the public the truth. If that doesn't spur change, we failed as experts in our profession in educating the ignorant.

I agree. The article came out with what needed to be said.

What I don't understand, is why so many pilots rant and rave on this very forum about all the industry problems, then when a newspaper article or something similar about that very same thing comes out and points out the same complaints, the pilots automatically bitch about the media even if it might be a good article?

Someone actually comes out to highlight your plight.....and pilots automatically slam that down?

Not to be Captain Obvious or anything (haven't upgraded yet, anyways), but most of the people "complaining" about the content of the article don't seem to be gainfully employed (or employable) airline pilots.

Agree. I was sort of pointing out pilots as a whole, as I often see this in a cross-section of media articles concerning any number of aviation subjects. Sure, there are lousy and inaccurate articles out there....any number of them. But there are some good ones too that do target the same things we as a whole complain or are otherwise concerned about.

Pullup, you from Buffalo?

Yes sir, born and raised.

It's because an outsider is airing the dirty laundry of the piloting profession.

I personally don't see a whole lot changing as it requires money of which airlines don't want to spend and passegers don't want to pay. People get what they pay for in most cases.

(off topic)
I also can't believe how passengers treat some crews. I was actually blown away last week when a passenger was actually ticked off and rude to the FA because he/she didn't hold up his top coat to put on as he was walking off...WTF they are there for you safety not to be your servant.

It is a disease spread by touching a commercial or ATP certificate.

I am certain you have heard a very old joke about what is the difference between a jet engine and a ______________ (then you fill in the blank depending on what flavor pilot you are talking about that day). There is a reason that joke started many years ago and is still repeated today.

I'd like to clarify how I actually about the issue...

I'm tired of articles like this because they are local sensationalism, are low in content, and they don't seem to bring anything new to the scene. They took the articles from March, threw in a new quote or two from "authoritative figures", and re-arranged the paragraphs. I don't mean to discredit Skiles, but why does somebody have to be involved in something like that in order to be considred an authority? He probably feels exactly the same way he did before the Hudson debacle. I guess that's just the media, though.

I'm okay with news media exposing the low experience of some pilots and how low pay is, etc. If it's fair and unbiased, by all means, have at. The masses will bitch and moan enough and eventually something will have to give.

This one just stank of "we're soooo booooorrrreeddd... let's write about Colgan again!!!"
