I feel like falling iguanas are scarier but exploding trees sound scary AF also.

I was winter camping in Vermont one winter and it went from 40 degrees to -15 in about 4 hours. Craziest things I've ever seen. We'd set up camp in a grove of oak trees and with the sap flash freezing there were several of them that exploded in the middle of the night. Sounded like bombs going off. Fortunately we were far enough away that the wood shrapnel didn't hit our tents, but it was all over the place in the morning.

Sounds good. I am the biggest ERCOT/Gridd skeptic in Texas but I really have a hunch it will be okay. If the freezing rain is heavy that is where the problems come in - particularly Austin and SA - because the trees never really lose their leaves and the utilities are not the best about trimming. I predict lots of power loss but it'll be snapped trees and not a grid issue. Act of God vs Act of corrupt legislature.
After last summers regular power outages for small rain squalls that rolled thru central Texas. I have no faith that Texas’ independent power grid will stay running. Ended up buying one of those newfangled gizmo “solar generators”

I’ve got firewood stockpiled. if the power goes out, The 10kw solar generator will keep internet TV running and cellphones charged.

I have a tiny 2kw Honda gas generator to recharge the 10kw battery when there’s no sun to layout 6 400w solar panels.

During the summer the solar generator was able to run the fridge freezer, internet and a U-split window A/C for 3 days. So should be able to run at few days longer because I won’t be needing to run the window A/C unit.

The set up is a lot quieter than running a larger gas or propane generator 24/7 to keep power running. I only need to run the Honda generator for 5 hours to recharge the battery for several days worth more power.

Hopefully should be able to last the week or two will take Oncor to reconnect all the downed lines…

IMO it will be a close fight between AA, Delta, and SWA.

Delta only has one hub getting hit but it is the largest of the hubs. I also feel there could be some shenanigans that will occur with negotiation season starting. You already see it with management blaming last month's issues on the pilot contract.

AA and SWA have multiple hubs getting hit sequentially. DTW, CLT, DCA for AA and DAL, BNA, ATL, and BWI for SWA.

Will be interested to watch. This is assuming I have electricity to watch the chaos unfold...
BOS and NYC are supposed to get 8-12 inches. I think DTW is supposed to get 3-6 as well. Seems like no one is safe!

I feel the NWS actually does have a sense of humor, if you look for it:

Growing up in SoFL, we didn't have iguanas, until the knuckleheads let them go outside once they got too big (and ugly). They wreck and poop on everything. They won't bite, but Cuban Anoles will (and they bite HARD), and the best part is unless you know what you're looking at, you won't know until it's too late.

We didn't have Monk Parakeets, either, until they got loose from a crate at the airport (they're annoying AF in the morning).

But hey, at least the giant pythons are taking care of the alligators overpopulation. Kaiju action conveniently located.

I’m in the middle of a 4 day doing min rest EWR/Florida Turns on Sat and Sun. I can smell the add pay and am ready to embrace the dumpster fire.

I didn't realize how big those things were until I was walking back in around sunset back to the training hotel in Miami and here's some freaking dragon walking across the sidewalk. Scared the death out of me because I had no idea what it was. LOL.

I hate Florida. Long ago, our GNV hotel was this old school resort/conference center built on the edge of a lake. There was a path that went to the lake where you could watch the alligators. I was standing there watching them swim around, and heard something above me in the trees. Looked up to see some giant snakes wrapped around the branches right above my head.

No. Thank. You.

I don't see the appeal. When I lived in Altamonte Springs, it was nothing but snakes, huge spiders, cocky barking squirrels, alligators, mosquitoes and implants from the northeast going full Karen at Publix because they asked for their turkey "shaved" and not thinly sliced and "if this were back in (city), they'd (do something bad) to ya for dat!"

Has anyone gotten an email or some kind of notification from their company about this story? Just curious… past life (9E) we always got a message when there was a possible irop in any base. I’m sure DL is the same way. Just wondering what other shops are doing?

In true fashion Saturday will roll around and the powers that be will act like they don’t know a snow storm was coming through a particular cargo company’s largest sort location.

Even SunGiant OCC is prepping for the imminent disaster and the recovery from it… I think they already precanceled but will run extra sections after the storm passes. I’m pleasantly surprised to see that they have been proactive for once… 🤣

Could be worse. Could be Australia where everything on that forsaken island is poisonous, including the duck billed platypus.

Add to that, the wild boars who have been displaced by more new communities and now destroy your grass looking for food. The crane birds that will block traffic and give two f’s that they are causing a problem.
