Which regional for ORD/DFW or MCI

I'm just getting started in a transition out of the military and I'm looking at my 121 options. MCI with Republic is the closest to me, 3hr drive. I can commute to ORD/DFW one leg, with about 5 flights per day although in my experience they are often full. Other bases would make it unworkable based on where I live. Can anyone give me a little insight about who would offer me the best opportunity to get based in ORD or DFW? And there are any Republic guys, is MCI an option as a first base?

Probably Expressjet or Eagle would be your best bet for those bases, but why not try for DEN or MSP? Both would be pretty easy commutes.
 
The airport nearest me only has regular flights to ORD and DFW. There is one flight per day to DEN, but it stays pretty full. Unfortunately my commuting options are limited from here, that's why I would put up with some other negatives if I could drive to KC.
 
Republic loves to close bases, and I'm sure MCI is an outstation base for them. I wouldn't plan on any base republic has to be there for very long.
 
Do you live by MHK? If you do go with Envoy as you would commute on your flights and be able to get the Jumpseat. If the weather is bad and there weight restrictions commute back into MCI and take the shuttle.

I'm closest to SGF which Envoy services. That's probably my best choice. I will also consider Trans State out of STL, that's driveable for me.

SGF is a maintenance base for Envoy, so unless they close that, it will be safe to say Envoy will continue to fly into that airport with multiple overnights there.

Yeah I don't know why you wouldn't consider Skywest if you want DFW. Guess we have more pro Envoy'ers than Skywest here. I'm pretty sure I saw upgrade just dipped under 2 years there?

Because SkyWest doesn't have a base in Dallas/Ft. Worth.
