Which regional and why... ?

I'm excited to get my BE-1900 PIC type, especially the rate of captains on the B1900 leaving silver...

I've always taken Skywest "mainline" to mean that they're the most favorite child within the Inc family, not that they're actually mainline. For past examples, see Colgan Express (1900's) vs. Colgan Mainline (Saab's).
nah man, actually SkyWest Express would be Bro guys, mainline would be the RJ. Nothing to do with SkyEast. :)
That said, my friends that use that slang are only guys that have flogged the Bro and are proud of it and want to make the distinction. Direct RJ hire (ex-freightdawg) friends couldn't give a crap.

It's a term used for trolling jtrain609 and his contemporaries.

And as for the RJ thinking they're mainline...well...

FYI- at Atlas they call the 767 a "light twin." Everything's relative, folks!

It is! :) It's basically the 737 of the Atlantic.

I remember when I transitions to the 76, my Swiss friend said, "My! I didn't know anyone still flew those things. Don't you want to fly something modern?" :)

I've had a BOS controller tell me to "Follow the RJ." It was a Delta 170/175. Irony, though? I'm in a 190. So, yes, ATC does say it. They're likely saying it to poke fun at someone who's not on the home team, though. I say it not because I'm a jealous tool, I say it to irritate those E-Jet guys flying for regionals that think they're better. I've met them, too. I've even had a couple come back on the frequency and say "We're not an RJ." I really don't care how I sound to other guys. I don't care what the Delta 747 guy thinks of me, and I don't care what the Cape Air 402 guy thinks of me. I'm an equal opporunity d-bag.

Like everyone else has said, which regional you pick is a total crap shoot. I had two options: XJT and Pinnacle. Pinnacle was mired in contract negotiations, crappy contract, poor pay, BUT no commute and possible new contract on the horizon. At the time, XJT was still flying solely for CAL, but they had some airframes that were being parked that they didn't have a plan for. The pay and contract were considerably better than Pinnacle, but I would have been commuting to IAH, CLE or EWR outta MEM. I chose Pinnacle basically because I didn't want the hassle of commuting. Fast forward a few years, and if I had gone to XJT, I would have a) not upgraded until MUCH later and possibly b) been furloughed. I likedly would have avoided the F word, but I can almost guarantee I would have suffered a displacement or two. Going to Pinnacle might have been less $$$ in the long term, but it got me upgraded, an ATP and (most importantly) I got the contacts I needed to get my foot in the door at jetBlue. There's NO WAY I would have been able to see or plan all that when I was job hunting as a CFI for my first regional job. You just have to go with what makes sense at the time and hope for the best. Two years ago, Pinnacle would have been at the top of most people's list. Good pay, good work rules and (supposedly) stable flying. Now? No one wants to go there....again. Crap shoot is the best way to put it. Roll the dice and hope for the best. Hindsight is the only way you'll know if it worked out.

Yeah, who cares what they call it? The type on my ATP says ERJ 170/190, so I guess it's an RJ. All I care about is that I'm not at a regional anymore. If JetBlue paid me to fly Cessna 172s, I would be all over it.

That being said, I do have some buddies that can't wait to get to the A320 so they won't be flying "RJs" anymore.

"light paycheck" too!

Well, they are flying a "more mainline" RJ than a CRJ or ERJ145. Kinka like FedEx 757 pilots who brag to UPS 757 pilots how the FedEx jets have flat panel displays, EFB's and other assorted toys the UPS jets don't. The UPS guys come back and say "that's nice, but I make $30/hr MORE than you for flying the same jet and for that I'll dig out my paper Jepp charts". That shuts up the FedEx guys pronto. Rember, It's ALL about the money.

There's no way a UPS pilot would say that over a radio.

Yep, I just finished a SYD-NRT trip. I think it's been running about 2 weeks now, but things ran smoothly for us.
Nice. The guy that got the 767 program running over there is the guy who did my weight and balance training for atlas and polar. Awesome guy.

Überlike.

Sorry Embraer blokes but wing slung engines doesn't mean it's any different than empennage engined Canadair if the name on the side doesn't match the name on your paystub.
Mine occasionally does say who I work for in big letters. But still.

Good god, if that's what's in my future I'm signing up for truck driving school right now.

Either it's a specious story or there's some cultural issues there. The 777 is a nice airplane, but it's not like I'm going to splay myself at the captains feet because he was old and decrepit enough to hold it. Or if the 767-400 guy wanted to talk about his LCD displays to a standard 767-300 guy, I think we'd look at him like he admitted to being in NAMBLA.
