You'll move faster to better schedules - 45 pilots left SkyWest for Majors in only the first quarter of this year - plus of course the growth.
The futher East you go the more junior bases are. Jet upgrades - 2-3 years.
No pay in training is not a good thing but it weeds out ..blank, blank.. so you'll really enjoy working with committed and overachieving group. With quick upgrade you'll make up the $$$ difference.
12% pay increase for the 70's in talks.
Wherever you go don't sleep with FA's (unless after the wedding!) - very stupid and costly mistake!!!

No. They actually talk about changing it. That's how I spin it and it is just my observation after being there and having done that.
Sorry.. I couldn't afford being a FO at my previous airline for another 5 years..
Also that's how Plato and KD spin 4-6 hours it takes to fill out the CAL's application

Not sure which one looks better. They are the two most stable airlines, and I feel lucky to pick from my two top choices.
I would like to live in Denver (SkyWest) but like how Comair treats their pilots. Even during the interview process Comair seemed to do better than SkyWest, i.e...called me instead of emailed me to inform me of the interview, arranged my transportation to CVG, better "Kool-Aid" at the company briefing, etc... With SkyWest I was kind of on my own.
But I really like SkyWest's bases and whichever one I choose I need to seriously look at being there for my entire career, so location could be a big factor....so there in lies my dilema...

Comair: Treat me better, better pay....

I wouldn't make the mistake of judging each company on the slickness of their HR programs. Judge them on how happy their pilot groups are working there--and the feedback you've gotten here from active SkyWest pilots is on the same page as what I've heard from others that I know there. None of the ones I know would rather be at any other regional.

I would probably go with skywest. I also know a few Comair pilots and they are not all happy. Also they are making a VERY bad name for themselves within Delta and especially with my airline ASA. They supposedly were supporting us with our overdue contract nedgotiations, then they stab us in the back by accepting a pay freeze in order for the promise of new airplanes. Delta still has it out for them as well after the strike, refusing to hire furloughed Delta pilots, and the Christmas fiasco. It is no surprise that they were not awarded any of the most recent jets from Big D.
And as you just said, there is no growth there now. No new jets yet,just promises. You could go there and "get stuck" in the right seat or on reserve forever.

I have friends that fly for both SkyWest and Comair, both are really great companies. Choose the one that best suits your needs. They're my top two choices when it the time comes. I happen to work for Comair and will probably apply from within, but we'll see. The industy is always in flux. Choose the best one that has the best benefits and QOL.

And BTW- Brad Holt just sent out an update of projected hiring for the next 9 months. We're projected to hire approx 599 guys by FEB 2006. So if you get hire in a week, your gonna have 599 guys under you by FEB 2006, and most likely more with additional growth!

I think if they're looking at hiring 599 pilots in under a year, "competitive" is gonna become an EXTREMELY relative term. If that damn hurricane hadn't hit, I might ACTUALLY have had 1000 hours by then. As it stands, I might have around 800 by Feb 2006 if I'm very lucky.....

Personal opinion here, but I think both of these companies are fairly similar in what pilots can expect out of schedules, pay and pilot satisfaction. So that leaves, as you said, location.
I had a similar dilema. Shortly after I was hired at SkyWest (A little over a week) I got the "Your Hired!" call from Chautauqua. I stuck with SkyWest for several reasons, but where I was going to live, if I stayed for the long term, was a HUGE factor in my choice. (I didn't want to move the wife and kids and I would like to stay out West.) Had I already lived back East or grown up there, then perhaps the decision would have been different.
BTW No real complaints w/SkyWest. I like it and the majority of the pilots I know have a great time working here. (It's better than working for a living.) Not everything is perfect, but that is the case no matter where you go.

I can't believe you people... If I am away from Cincy for more then a few months, I have my parents buy some Skyline frozen at the store, pack it on dry ice and ship it to me...
Fun little Skyline story... Out with some friends from home and we went to Oxford, Ohio (Miami University). Had a great night, ran into a lot of people I haven't seen in years. Anyway, 2:30am comes arround, and we go to the skyline walkup window on High st, and get 6 coneys between the two of us...99 cents a piece, and so good. Sitting at a picnic table on the corner, and these 2 drunk middle age (35-40) couples walks by, and the lady asks for one of the cheese coneys from us. I figured it was kinda rude, and realized people have been in fights for less, but figured what the hell, so I told her she can have it for 6 bucks. Her husband pulled out his wallet, and asked if I had change for a 20, I said nope. So he handed me the 20 she picked up her coney, and left.
We went back up to the window and got 4 more and stumbled home.
People Are willing to do almost anything for Skyline. Anyone out there who says gold star is better can go commit suicide for all I care.
