Hey guys, im filling out my housing application right now and i was just wondering what your comments are on which dorm is the best??? ive heard some good things about Brannon, but i dunno...

and how do you get a single??? or is it just by luck???

peace out guys

I think the nicest dorm is Swanson, but you have to be at least 20 years old or have 60 credits completed. Brannon is pretty nice, too. Walsh is probably the worst dorm I've lived in

I worried about this too because I dont want to be stuck with some failure or mess.

A lot of us prop heads live in West/McVey, plus its right close to Wilkerson (where you eat).

Best bet would be Brannon, I'd say. It's coed and close to Wilkerson. I'm living in Brannon right now, and I think it's cool. Having a single would be best though, but unfortunately I don't have one this year.

I think that living in same-gender dorms is gay as hell. It feels like you're in jail. I was in West for one semester last year. I didn't like it, and ended up moving to Brannon.

You need 30 credits for Brannon, I think.

edit: Regarding the singles...It's a first come first serve type of thing. You apply for them. They give priority to upperclassmen, which is why I couldn't get one this fall. I got a single last spring because there were a lot of empty rooms, and they didn't mind giving out the single.

Why don't you just live in an OFF-CAMPUS apartment? Unless you want the "dorm experience", it's cheaper to live off campus AND cook your own homemade food (if you know how to cook, because UND cafeteria food is not very good and not healthy).

Before I came to UND from the west coast I picked out an apartment from the ones listed on www.apartmentguide.com, signed the lease, and had the keys waiting for me when my 25 foot UHAUL truck with car towed behind arrived. Granted it was a long 3 day 2,000 mile drive...but I had a nice comfy place to stay.

If you live in the dorms, you'll only last there for 1 year...then you'll do like everyone else does and either rent a large house with multiple students or get your own apt by yourself or with one other person.

Im also a Frosh Ive been here for 30 or so dayys now. I think the Smith is pritty good, usually the 3rd floor is the crazy floor (im in it right now). The smith has larger rooms, larger closets and the community bathes are all new/renovated and they have private bathes as well. The onl disadvatage is, on weekends you have to go out in the cold to Wilkerson to eat and no elevators. but WE have the BEST view on campus.

I had it made last year as far as dorms go. First floor on mcvey, airconditioning, really hot floor in the winter. It was above the boiler room, hence the airconditioner. We ran that thing non-stop all year. Which came to bite us at the end. That thing was breaking down all the time, and we lost control of the temp with it running.

This is the second year of dorm life. I was too shy to go find some people moving off campus I guess. Hopefully this will be the last year in the dorms. My rooming situation here sucks real real bad compared to last year. Makes me more motivated to move out though.

I beg to differ! We just won another two awards for our excellent dining services- check the dakota student. I personally find the food here pretty good, with a fairly good selection. If you have any specific complaints about the dining services here at UND, feel free to PM me. I serve as the Food and Facilities Chairman here at UND.

Not intending to offend you if you're North Dakotan, but by who's standards? North Dakota food quality standards or Big City food quality standards? I have Big City food quality standards and I judge all restaurants here in Grand Forks by that.

You can't even get a decent Prime Rib or Filet Mignon here. Sander's is probably the only place that's decent. Blue Moose's Prime Rib is hit or miss... 3 times out of 4 it's been sitting under the heat lamp way too long.

North Dakota = not a place for culture, not a place for good food.

...why did I move here you ask? I had no clue what I was getting into LOL...but hey, the tuition is affordable so that's why I endure it.

I think it's so funny how people native to Grand Forks "rave" about Paradiso Mexican Food. Having been raised in a Mexican family, it's a severe disgrace to Mexican cuisine for Paradiso to use canned beans and instant-rice and call it "authentic Mexican food".

I may sound like an ass, but this is all true.

I agree as well. You can't even get a meal after 11:00 p.m. in this f***** town. Most restaurant's grill closes at 10:30 p.m. or 11:00 p.m. The only place you can get food after midnight is Taco Bell and some of the family restaurants.

Don't even get me started on the dining centers. As soon as a holiday rolls around, they are closed. I guess student's don't eat during holidays and only twice a day during weekends. But I'll stop right there. Thank god I don't have to eat at the dining center anymore.

That place is really bad - especially compared to California standards...

You know it is a bad sign when they ask, "Would you like red or green gravy on your enchilada?"
