Where would you want to be based

I'd be based in:

Lihue, HI - PLHI
San Diego, CA - KSAN
Seattle, WA - KSEA /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

gosh, I must be the only germanophile here....

EDFM (Mannheim City) for me, or EDDF (Frankfurt/Main)

Actually, no. I'd LOVE to fly in Germany. I've been hitting the German immersion CDs and a textbook I bought on Ebay. Wanted to learn German for years. It's a pain in the ass to get FAA ratings flipped to JAA, and I'm still not sure on the hoops to go through for EU citizenship.

You ought to come here.....Germans everywhere. Nice guys, but a pain in the ass when you have an IFE, and they're your chase plane.....trying to understand what the heck they're trying to tell you!

The US/German fistfight at the O-Club a few weeks ago certainly didn't help matters.......... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Doug, do you think its possible for a Delta pilot/fo to go there entire career with out being based at ATL at least once?

Here's how my bid in new hire class went:

ORD
ORD
ORD
ORD
DFW
ORD
BOS
ORD
DCA
ORD
LGA
ORD

or maybe, if there's any openings, how about:
ORD!

(I would have taken STL over DFW, but it wasn't an option at the time.)

No. In fact, I'm on round-two of being based in ATL and it's KILLING me.

Rumor has it that the MD-90's are going to form a small SLC base because of the closure of DFW and if I can hold a line, I'm going to be on that like stink on S---!

Bill's escaped the 'ATL Curse' so far. He was NYC 727FE as a new-hire, and got CVG soon after and has never left CVG.

However, with the schedules the way they are he flies out of ATL just about every other leg!

I really...

really...

really...

really...

really...

really hate doing the ATL-shuttle. If I didn't have international or transcon to look forward to, I'd have left and gone to real estate school already or dove deeper into the whole dot.com thing.

Well, I've done the real estate school thing (appraiser's school last year), and Bill says he wants to know more about the 'dot.com' thing /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif (Yes, we're still concerned about FMIII) But considering his computer is a Pentium II 350, we'd probably have to invest in a new computer before being able to really do anything computer-wise from the house! Even my desktop is only a PIII 866, and that's getting out-dated now.

I do actually highly recommend the appraiser's school. Classes were every weekend for 6 weeks, then a state test. Easy (realativly speaking), logical information to learn & it's so easy to set your own schedule to work once you're working in the field.

OK...

I was born in Michigan, lived in Texas, Colorado, back in Texas, then Ohio, Maine, and finally back in Texas...

Never wanted to leave Maine...

PWM would be a dream... or BHB like Acadia suggested.
BOS, because then I could commute from Maine! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
DEN and commute from Colorado Springs.

I do like... or rather I need... the seasons, the mountains, the cool crisp autumns and the changing of the leaves, the blanket of white of winters first snow, the renewal of spring, and the warm sunny days and cool evenings of summer in the mountains and New England.

I can not stand the heat and lack of seasons in Texas... at least DFW. Can't even take my daughter out to play for more than 15 minutes in the summer without her overheating or there being an Ozone Alert!

Anyway... New England, Central Mountain, and Northern Midwest for me.

My choices would be Dallas or Houston. (Somebody explain why I'm based in Columbus then???)

[/ QUOTE ]

Well hopefully for you XJT buys CHQ then, huh? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

We're still to busy Drooling over it... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Hopefully thatll never happen.

Hey Doug,

I actually hope when and if I ever "make it" to ultimately be based in ATL since I can get to the airport in 1.5 hours by car from my home.

Trade ya... Guess it's the "grass is always greener argument". Based on the site, I think you could hold your own...

Funny, I haven't thought about it much. It would have to be somewhere out west. Like

BOI
SLC
DEN
PDX
