Where to train near KHWO?

Ain't nobody got time for that
Hello all!

I am a student pilot over at KGNV, and I will finish my private up in Gainesville. In july/august, I will move to Pembroke Pines for work.

I am wondering where is the best experience (and not the most expensive) FBO (part 61) near KHWO?

It can be KHWO, KOPF, KFLL, KFXE, KPMP or even KMIA (though I doubt there's anything worthwhile there).

I am going to be working on my instrument and commercial part 61 maybe 2-3 times a week. Would be a plus if they had a complex aircraft or glass cockpit but certainly would not keep me from going there (as I can always go elsewhere for those.)

Multiengine is also a plus but not a requirement.

I don't care if it's a 150/152. Honestly, I'd rather fly that. it's cheaper.

My main concern here is where is there a good FBO with good CFIs that give you a good environment to learn in. Not a plug and chug just you're-just-another-student flight school.

any suggestions?

I used to fly out of OPF when I lived in Miami. The school where I got my PPL sold their 172 and only rents Cirrus now ($$$). However, I flew with these folks, too, a few times:

They were always nice, have good rates on newer 172s and one 172L, and I never had a problem scheduling a plane. That being said, I never received instruction there, aside from a checkout flight.

At HWO there are a few schools. I've always heard good things about NS Aviation, but never flown there myself.

FXE has a few good options as well, but that may be too far of a hike. The other thing I would consider if looking into FXE is how busy it is. OPF and HWO are (relatively) quieter which means less taxi/hold short time.

As always, the best method is to go to the potential schools, talk to instructors, and take a look at the planes. Hope this helps.

I second NS Aviation at KHWO. They have a great staff and their planes are in very good condition. Also, North Perry is a great airport to do your flight training.

I had a buddy who taught at KFXE and they flew Diamonds and 150/152s. Cant recall the name off hand.

That right there sounds like my thing.

NS Aviation looks like a fantastic operation don't get me wrong, but their prices are a little high to me.

140 for an IFR 172sp and 55 for instructor.

Not to mention that if possible I'd rather get my Instrument and commercial part 61.

Does the place at KFXE still have 152s you think? (I know 152s ifr equipped aren't that abundant but I can try.)
